breath because you’re scaring me?”
“I just don’t want… us…” He was raking his hand back and forth over the top of his head like he might pull every hair there out. “I don’t want you to…”
“Greg. Seriously,” she said sternly. “Stop. Okay. Just stop.”
And he did though the thoughts and feelings in him did not.
“Take a breath,” she said.
He tried, but no air was getting into or out of him.
“No,” she said even more firmly. “Take. A. Breath.”
This time, he got more of a breath in, but it caused the shaking to recommence.
“Well, that was a little better,” she said, and her voice was kind and soft. “Tell you what. I’m out of breakfast food over here, and I really don’t want to eat a stale Pop-Tart. What do you say, I swing by and pick you up and we go somewhere for a proper Sunday breakfast? Okay, make it brunch. I haven’t had one of those in a long time.”
The thought of seeing her and having to act in the realm of normal ripped through him. “Oh… you don’t have to.”
“I think we need to. You just get ready. I’ll be there in fifteen.”
“Tay…”
“Greg,” she said, stopping all arguments. “Get ready. I’ll be there to get you in 15 minutes.”
“O… kay.”
From the time she hung up with him, Taylor wasn’t sure what she was about to walk into. Whatever rainbows and unicorns she had thought this would be was not how it was turning out. In fact, had this been any other guy than Greg, she probably would’ve bailed and never looked back. But it was Greg. And that meant she was not about to leave him wallowing like this.
He’d sounded so bad, so desperately bad.
So bad, in fact, that as she pulled up to the house a mere thirteen minutes later, she steeled herself for what she might find when she knocked on that door. “God, I hope You know what we’re doing here because I’m really gonna need some help with this one.”
Mostly Greg was moving without much direction. He’d gotten presentably dressed and he was pulling his tennis shoes on when he heard her knock. If he’d have been smart, he would’ve timed this better and been out there waiting for her. As it was, he heard the voices before he realized what was happening, and he knew it was too late for that.
“Tay,” Wes said, opening the door and gathering her into a hug two steps into the house.
“Hey, Wes,” she said as she patted his back. She waved to Nelson who sat at the table, looking like he didn’t dare come any closer. “Hey, Nels.”
“Tay,” Nelson said with a nod.
She looked around and stuck her hands in the pockets of her jacket. “Greg here?”
Wes glanced back at the hallway. “Uh, yeah. I think so. I heard him taking a shower earlier.”
One second from locating the next question, Taylor looked down the hall and found Greg coming. His head was down and he looked like he was walking to the executioner. One look at him, and she knew the concern of the other two. There was no other choice.
“So,” Taylor said, putting on bright-and-cheery as she stepped over to Greg and threaded her arm though his, “we’re just going to go grab some breakfast.”
When Greg’s eyes came up to meet hers, all she saw was the immense sadness in them.
Confusion twined with concern inside of her, but she pushed that back. “You guys, don’t have too much fun without us.”
Looking between them with growing worry, Wes shrugged. “We won’t.”

The Imagination Series
Becoming Me (Kindle Unlimited) Paige Grayson knows Nelson Samuels is out of her league. Not only is he her sister’s best friend, but he is also far-and-away talented on the piano, guitar, drums, and any other instrument someone puts in his hands. But when Nelson asks her to help him with a song, what’s a girl to do but say yes and hope she can get out of this with her heart intact?
The Taste of Tears (Kindle Unlimited) Nelson Samuels fell head-over-heels for Paige Grayson—he even did
