chances.” He gives Stacey a sour look. “And I am not going through a dry spell. I am actively choosing not to date. There’s a difference.” He huffs and walks away with his head held high.
Stacey sighs while Kealy just looks sad.
“He’s still not even considering dating anyone?” I ask, not that I can blame him. His last date ended up with him in the hospital.
Stacey snuggles into me. “No, anytime I even try to bring it up and he just changes the subject.”
Kealy nods her head. “Yeah, I hit a brick wall too whenever I mention it. I hate seeing him like this.”
“I know.” Stacey agrees. “There’s times when he’s full of piss and vinegar and seems like he’s back to his old self. But then the shutters come right back down.”
I rub her arm. “Just give him some more time Baby. He’ll get back out there when he’s ready. Trying to push him is just going to make him dig his heels in even more.”
“I know, I just hate seeing him like this.” She replies sadly before shaking her head. “Anyway, where are Edge and Jameson? We’re supposed to be meeting them for a lesson.”
I look around and spot Jameson just finishing up with a client. “J will be here in a few minutes.” I look around the gym again and chuckle when I see Edge. “And Edge is getting hit on by some woman and looks like he would rather be anywhere but there.”
The girls look over at where I’m pointing Edge out and both immediately scrunch up their noses like they smell something foul. “You two alright?”
“Yuck.” Kealy says making me do a double take. She’s not exactly overly vocal, especially when it comes to her disliking anyone. I’ve gotten to know her a lot better over the last few weeks. She’s truly one of the sweetest people that I’ve ever met.
“Yuck?” Stacey says. “More like her thirsty, desperate ass needs to go away.” She growls out.
I take a step back and look between the two confusing women. “Am I missing something?” Because I sure as hell have to be. There is no reason for my woman to have such a reaction to someone hitting on Edge.
She looks at me and must be able to read the expression on my face. She dramatically rolls her eyes at me. “I don’t care that he’s getting hit on dummy. I care who’s hitting on him.”
I run my tongue over my teeth. “That’s not much better babe.”
“That’s Karen.” The disgust in Kealy’s voice is kind of shocking.
“Why does that name sound familiar?” I ask.
“She’s the charge nurse on our floor who seems to hate me for no apparent reason. And once she figured out how close Kealy and I are, she’s decided to be a bitch to her too.” Stacey says with pure venom dripping from her words. “I swear, she is the nastiest bitch that I’ve ever met.”
Kealy nods her head. “She really is.” Her eyes are glued to Edge and I can see them narrow. I look over to see that Karen is rubbing her hand on Edge’s bicep. Huh? Maybe he isn’t the only one harboring some secret feelings. “She really needs to get a clue. He seriously doesn’t want her anywhere near him.” Her tiny growl makes me want to smile but I make sure not to. I have a feeling that the two, now seemingly pissed off women in my presence wouldn’t approve of that. I can be dumb at times, but never suicidal.
I whistle loudly making everyone in my immediate vicinity hunch their shoulders. “Yo Edge! Man come here would ya?” I call him over before the women standing next me do something stupid. Karen looks like the type to press charges.
Edge’s head turns in my direction so quickly that I’m pretty sure I can hear it crack all the way across the gym. The look of relief on his face is one that I wish I could get on camera. He nods his head and looks back down at Karen. He maybe says one word and starts strolling over to us. Like a good friend, I’m not going to mention how quickly he seems to be walking.
“Thanks man.” He says the minute that he reaches up. “I couldn’t stand there listening to her for another second. Some chicks just don’t take a hint.”
“Anything for you buddy.” I reply with a smirk while both Stacey and Kealy snort and mumble, “she never does.”
