words too low for me to hear.
“I’m glad that fucker got what he deserved.” Edge’s voice holds so much malice that I feel it in my bones.
“Unless he gets parole.” Kealy mutters. “That was four years ago. He’s eligible for parole in another year and a half. Since he didn’t have any prior convictions.”
Jesus Christ. That asshole should be locked up for the rest of his pathetic life. He should never see the outside world again. Although judging by the unsettling gleam in Edge’s eyes, I have a feeling that even if the fucker gets out, he won’t be alive for too long. Hopefully my arm is fully healed, in case he needs help disposing of the body. I can guarantee that I’ll sleep like a baby that night.
Kealy looks up at me and gives me a sad little smile. “That’s what you need to understand before agreeing to work with me. I’m not great near men.” Her chuckle is self-deprecating. “Actually it’s a miracle that I’m even standing here talking to the two of you. I’m extremely jumpy and spook at the slightest sounds. Honestly,” her shoulders slump. “I’m not even sure if it’s actually going to be possible to train me.”
Even if she hadn’t told me anything, I would be determined to help her just from seeing the look of defeat cross her face.
We all stand quietly for a few moments realizing that she’s right. She won’t be a normal case. But as my eyes scan the room, I see a very tall head of blonde hair and an idea pops into my head.
I smile and receive three matching skeptical looks. “Don’t look at me like that. I just had an idea.”
“I know,” the love of my life responds warily, “that’s why we’re all looking at you. The smile you have on right now is kind of creepy.” The other two traitors of no faith nod their agreement.
Deciding to take any opportunity to get my woman back I decide to run my eyes all over her body. “Darlin’ you and I both know that I’ve come up with some very good ideas. You’ve enjoyed them…immensely.” It takes everything in me not to smile in triumph when Stacey goes bright red, no doubt remembering some of my more creative ideas.
“That’s…” She sputters, “now is not the time Dan!” She hisses making everyone chuckle. Fortunately, my plan worked two fold. I have Stacey remembering how good we were together and had the added bonus of bringing back some much needed humor. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.
“Will you three just hear me out?” I look each of them in the eyes before continuing. “Now, I’m getting that you probably won’t be able to join in physically for awhile. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t still learn all of the proper moves.”
Kealy gives me a look of pure confusion. “Umm, how am I still going to learn without practicing anything?”
I look at Edge and give him a shit eating grin that causes him to raise his eyebrow in complete distrust. “Well, since my good buddy Edge here has already stated that he is more than willing to volunteer his time to help you.” Edge’s eyes narrow and it’s killing me not to laugh in his face. “How about I get one of my trained fighters to show you all of the moves, using Edge as the proverbial punching bag.”
I ignore Edge’s lowly growled “What?” And continue with a smile, I look over at my agitated friend and smile even wider. “We need a bad guy to kick the crap out of. Who better than someone who actually looks the part?” I shrug and try to hide my wince when I move my arm too much.
“Serves you right fucker.” Edge mutters obviously seeing my pain. “And why wouldn’t I be the one kicking ass in this scenario?”
“Well, I plan to have my boy over there,” I point in Jameson’s direction, “come here and be the teacher. Let’s face it buddy, he looks like a baby faced angel and you resemble the devil. It just seems more fitting.”
“He has a point.” Stacey agrees, making Edge frown. She holds up her hands quickly and back pedals. “I mean, I’m sure that you’re a great guy. Probably as sweet as a puppy.” I can’t help but snort at the look of horror on Edge’s face. Damn I wish that I had my phone on me to record this. Where the
