that time and life are precious so it’s best not to waste them. Find what matters to you and get on with the business of living instead of getting caught up in doubt. I pulled my head back, some loose hairs falling into my face, and gazed up at Malcolm. “Would I get to be with you?” I needed him to know that was all that mattered to me.
He looked puzzled. “I should hope so.”
So I smiled and pulled him down again before whispering against his lips, “Then I think I’d like that very much indeed.”

CHAPTER EIGHT
RUBY
Leo eyed my awkward position and his mouth turned down. “Hey, I want to apologize again for giving you a fright and making you fall last night.”
Giving me a fright. Oh, wow. That was damn near irresistible. But I waved off his concern. I’d hurt myself way worse than this doing stupid shit over the last twenty-five years.
He moved to stand again. “It hurts looking at you all contorted like that. Why don’t you settle on the couch and prop your foot up?”
I started to shake my head, thinking it would probably just be best if he saw himself out and got back on his way. This had been an amazingly enjoyable distraction, but I had plans to make and losers to hunt down. My protest died on my tongue at his next words, though.
“I saw a bakery just down the block. I can run and grab coffee.”
Damn my addiction.
“And maybe some pastries?”
Strike that. Damn my addictions.
I sighed and adopted a put-upon expression. “If you must. I suppose I could tolerate some coffee.”
He grinned, causing his eyes to practically freaking sparkle.
“And a cherry Danish,” I added.
His grin grew.
“Or peach if they don’t have cherry.”
He nodded, still with the eye sparkle.
“But under no circumstances should you get apple. If that’s all they have, a donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles will do.”
“Got it.” He held out a hand to help me up and I took it. “Coffee and a cherry Danish. Peach is acceptable, but apple is offensive and possibly criminal. And the donut thing if all else fails.”
I nodded and rose to standing, finding myself within only a few inches of his face. I forgot about my morning breath and my high beams. The blue of his eyes was rimmed with a color so dark it almost matched his pupils, which were not as large as they’d been the night before, but they had potential. Flecks of navy peppered his irises, making them come alive. My gaze volleyed back and forth between his eyes and then, without my permission, fell to his mouth. Just as mine had last time, the tip of his tongue swept across part of his full lower lip before disappearing back into his mouth. I used the tiny sliver of restraint I still held to keep myself from leaning in and taking that bottom lip between mine. I forced myself to speak instead.
“I like my coffee with lots of cream and sugar.” My voice came out all winded, like I’d just finished hot yoga or something.
If I hadn’t been so close I wouldn’t have noticed the slight quirk of his lips at that. This man was clearly some kind of wizard, using his fancy wizardy shit to reel me into his sexy zone. I broke eye
