sitting in the same spot Harlow just vacated. “Why won’t you touch me?’’ I blurt out.
“W-what? I do touch you. I touch you all the time, Angel,’’ he tells me wide eyed, a faint blush to his cheeks.
“No Mason, not like that. I don’t mean in passing or giving me a hug, I mean sexually. After the other night I would have thought you wouldn’t have been able to keep your hands off me, but you’ve barely even let me touch you. What is up with that?’’
“W-what, you’re reading into things babe, we’re all good,’’ he says, not looking me in the eye and my heart stops. Is he going to break things off again? I wait for the harsh words to escape his mouth, and to feel the pain of my heart breaking into two, but nothing comes, but the tension of waiting for it is making my body ache.
“You seriously aren’t going to tell me, are you? If you don’t find me attractive Mason then just fucking say it.’’
“You’re just being hormonal,’’ he tells me, standing up and pacing.
Oh no he didn’t just say that to me!
“Yes Mason, it’s my fucking hormones. Not the fact that I had mind blowing orgasms from someone I lo... someone I thought was on the same page as me, to find out I’m so far off line, I’m on another track,’’ I snap sarcastically.
“No. Fuck! I didn’t mean it like that. Look, just... I don’t know. Just relax. I do find you attractive babe, I’ve proved this to you more than once. Why are you getting so worked up over this?’’ he asks, a faint blush to his cheeks, and his eyes still not fully meeting mine. He’s hiding something and it hurts knowing that.
“I’m going for a walk,’’ I snap, slipping on my Converse.
“It’s dinner time babe, just stay, please,’’ he begs, but it goes on deaf ears as I grab my cardigan, thankful the pregnancy makes me hot all the time now that the weather is cooling down.
“Fuck off Mason and you stay and relax,’’ I bite out. “I asked you a simple question, one you couldn’t even answer honestly.’’
Tears fall from my eyes and I ignore his pleas for me to stop and think about it. Instead, I just keep walking, not bothering to look back as I slam the door behind me, needing to get out of his way.
For the longest time I just walked, I don’t know how, or when, but I ended up in the centre of town, the streets silent and void of any other people.
For the first time since leaving Mason earlier, I start to feel the night’s cold air and let out a tiny shiver, wrapping my cardigan tighter around me. It’s just then an all-night open cafe comes into view. Walking in I make my way up to the counter and order a hot chocolate.
I’m not waiting long before I’ve paid and it’s given to me. I make my way out of the cafe, heading back towards home, thinking about what will happen between me and Mason. I really need him to be honest, to tell me why he’s being the way he is. If he’s hiding something from me then it must be serious.
Groaning, I shake my head, my eyes still diverted to the floor, not watching where I’m going. Which is what I should have been doing, especially as I’m a female, and walking alone during the night.
A noise from not too far away startles me and I whip my head up and scream in horror, before calming my racing heart down.
“Mom! What are you doing here? Dad said you left?’’ I ask, rubbing my over beating heart.
“Your dad,’’ she says distastefully. “Is an idiot thinking he can get rid of me. I made him who he is today, he should be thanking me. He was useless and a love struck puppy when we first met. He’s a fool if he thinks I’m going quietly, whatever the threats,’’ she laughs, but the laugh is hollow and kind of sounds like Cruella De Vil when she laughs.
“I don’t understand. What are you going on about mom? That doesn’t explain what you’re doing here. Have you followed me?’’ I ask, and jump when I hear the same noise from earlier. It’s coming from the alleyway my mother is standing near and I wish I could get her to move somewhere else, but I know it will only egg her on to stay
