my eyes before looking down at Denny who is staring at me with wide horrified eyes.
“Bro, has she pissed on you?’’ Max snickers, as Harlow and Malik coming running up the path.
“She has a name and is in labour. Now move, Mason, NOW!’’ she screams as another contraction hits her. Well, I’m presuming that’s what they are, but I’m still a little unsure with the whole ‘it’s too early’ matter.
“Why are you still here?’’ Harlow asks us out of breath.
“I’ve been asking the same thing,’’ Denny cries out.
“She pissed on Mase,’’ Max chuckles.
“That was my fucking waters breaking, you asshole,’’ Denny cries out before another blood curdling scream rips from her throat.
We move quickly through the garden and down the side of the house onto the street and get Denny into the back of my car.
“I’ll drive,’’ Maverick yells out as I jump into the back with Denny. She grabs onto my now soaked t-shirt and screams into my chest.
The midwives rushed Denny through the maternity ward doors not long after arriving at the hospital. Maverick went to park the car after dropping us off at the entrance.
“How far along are her contractions?’’ one of the midwives ask as they start prepping her.
“Close,’’ I tell her quickly before attending back to Denny, wiping the hair out of her eyes.
The nurse looks at me for a second longer, I can feel her stare on the side of my head like she’s waiting for me to say something more. I turn giving her a funny look, but then ignore her as another scream rips from Denny. The sound of it pierces through my heart.
“Give me something to stop the pain. No one told me it would hurt this much,’’ she cries again her screams piercing through the air.
“Put this in your mouth and suck in deep when another pain is coming,’’ the midwife tells her and I look at the offending object horrified. Could she have worded that any dirtier? I’ll have to remember to use that line when she’s recovered after having the baby.
“She still has over seven weeks of her pregnancy to go. Hope shouldn’t be coming yet,’’ I tell her worried.
“Let’s see what’s happening,’’ she says. The rest falls on deaf ears as I’m completely frozen watching Denny removing her joggers and knickers from her body, a body I had only a few hours ago embedded deep inside. The nurse’s head disappears between her legs and I all but cringe at the sight. When Denny hisses out a startled breath, I finally let go of the breath I’d been holding.
“What the hell is this place?’’ I all but yell pulling at my hair.
“Excuse me?’’ the other midwife asks, lifting her head from where she’s standing on the opposite side of the bed. She’s an older nurse, one that looks like she’s been doing this job for far too long. I’m just glad she has someone experienced helping her.
“It’s fine,’’ I dismiss, waving her off, not coping so well with the labour. I don’t even know which is left or right at the minute I’m that worried with what’s going on.
The sound of her screams will haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life and with everything that has happened over the past twenty four hours, nothing could have prepared me for this. I thought I had another seven weeks to prepare, but no, as fate would have it, they decided to fuck me over.
“Oh, it seems you’re ready to push Denny. Can you try on your next contraction for me?’’ the nurse between her legs says and I look down completely blown away by what I see and I have to cling to the bed to stop myself from swaying. Denny sees the look on my face and starts to sit up.
“What? What’s wrong?’’ she asks panicked.
“Nothing, nothing calm down. I guess I wasn’t prepared.’’
“You’ve seen it before Mason, now talk,’’ she snaps. Even pissed, bright red, and sweaty as hell she is still without a doubt the most beautiful woman in the world.
“It just looks sore down there is all, and I don’t mean from when we...um...you know,’’ I tell her, leaning in to whisper the last part so the midwives don’t hear us.
Twenty minutes of excruciating pushing and I’m ready to pass out. God it hurts, it hurts so much I’m actually willing to bet I’ve been put off having sex for the rest of my life.
“I NEED DRUGS,’’ I shout when another contractions hits Denny.
