does, I’m going to fuck him up. Verbally, that is. Physically, I’m no match for him, but it’s not like I’m going to try.
I’m hormonal, not an idiot.
Just as I reach out to grasp the tent flap, it’s jerked aside, revealing a pair of golden eyes. My gasp is loud but abruptly cut off when a strong hand snakes around my wrist and pulls me forward. I crash into a hard, immobile object, and the impact disorients me for a second.
But then I suck in a breath to scream.
Chapter 8
“Where have you been?!”
Jaxar’s roar not only stops me from calling for help, but it also stuns me. I blink up at him, trying to process what he’s saying, but I’m still confused at this turn of events. It’s me who’s supposed to be yelling, yet my husband launches into a tirade that leaves me speechless.
“Do you know what I thought when I arrived and you were nowhere to be found?!” Jaxar growls, baring his fangs. Even in the near darkness, I can see them clearly, and though I know he’d never hurt me, he’s pretty fearsome right now. “I thought you’d been taken by the enemy or killed by a wild animal stupid enough to enter the camp. But then I find you strolling around at night, unguarded, after I specifically warned you about the dangers it presented. Since you obviously care nothing for your life, it looks as if I will have to on your behalf.”
He releases my wrist only to grip me by the upper arms. Before I can utter a word of protest, Jaxar transports me to a nearby chair and sets me down on it. Considering how pissed off he is, I’m surprised at how he was able to move me without hurting me.
I squint up at him. “Don’t touch m—”
“You will not speak to me until I allow it.” Jaxar follows this statement by covering my lips with his tail. “In fact, you will not do anything unless I give you permission.”
My muffled response of “fuck you” is easily discernible.
But it doesn’t stop him from running his palms down my arms only to press my wrists together behind my back and anchor them in one of his hands. With the other, he removes the leather tie from his hair and uses it to secure my wrists. In this position, I’m not in any pain, but I sure as hell can’t get out of the chair and away from him.
This would be hot if I wasn’t so fucking angry.
“Ecknar zat! I cannot believe that I have to restrain my own wife,” he says, shaking his head. His hair, now loose and flowing, slides across his shoulders to land in inky tendrils on his sculpted chest. “But I know I’m unstable right now. If I don’t stop touching you, I will punish you. And if I punish you, then I will hurt you or fuck you. Or mayhap both.”
Oh boy. I know that’s not supposed to be a good thing, but Jaxar is threatening me with a fun time. Did I really say I didn’t feel like having sex?
Liar, liar, vagina on fire.
I try not to squirm in my chair, choosing to glare at him instead. With his tail still covering my mouth, I’m not able to say anything, but the second I can, I’m going to yell until I’m hoarse. It’s times like this that I wish I could kick my husband’s ass.
“I can see the anger in your gaze,” he says, “but that pleases me. Maybe you will remember this night and it will keep you from making foolish choices from now on.”
I’m making foolish choices? At least I’m not being an unfaithful jerk.
“So where were you?” He extends both arms, his wings opening as much as the space will allow. “And where is our daughter? You will tell me what I want to know and nothing but that. Am I clear?”
I nod, and he removes his tail, finally freeing my lips.
“Tika is safe with Scarlett, none of your business, and fuck you.” I manage to get the words out before he presses his hand to my mouth.
“Makayla, as relieved as I am to know our daughter is safe, you are anything but as of this moment.”
I shrug in order to relate how much he doesn’t scare me and how much I don’t care. In return, he roars so loudly that it rattles my teeth in my head. While my heart tries to settle back
