all of this, for months at a time?”
“To save the ones who don’t have anyone to fight for them.”
“No. I believed that at one time, but you talk in your sleep. The curse, you muttered about the curse and saving Mia. Well I have met Mia so I have to wonder what curse are you saving her from?”
As he raked his hand through his hair he asked, “Can we talk about thing later? Honey, you are almost dead on your feet. You are holding on to the wall to keep from falling over. You look like shit, pardon my language. I have heard your stomach growl half a dozen times and you are filthy. That is probably my fault for shoving you to the ground earlier. For right now can you forget everything and let me take care of you? We can discuss the future after you have rested. We can discuss the house, Halo, the pack, anything in the world you want but can it wait? Let me take care of you. You need it. You need a bath, food, a foot massage and rest. Can you let me do that for you?” He reached out and took her chin in his hand and gently lifted her head. As he looked into her eyes he asked again. “Can you let go for tonight and let me take care of you?”
“Well, it is almost morning I think.” She shrugged and lifted a shaky hand to his hand. Moving it from her chin she nodded. “Only because I don’t have the energy to fight with you.”
“It wouldn’t matter if you had the energy, it takes two to fight and I don’t allow drama in my home.”
Gracie looked around the bathroom, “It is too beautiful a place to have an argument, isn’t it? So you said you would run bath water for me?”
“Yes. Although you were suppose to stay in the living room till it was ready.”
“I would rather take a shower and eat. If that’s okay with you?”
“If it makes you happy it is fine. Here, let me help you with that.” He reached out and lifted the bottom of her shirt, when she made no protest he pulled up. She leaned against him as he helped her out of her clothes and into the shower. He handed her a washcloth and pointed to the fresh towel he hung for her. He heard her sigh as the water ran down her body. Swallowing hard he gave one last look before he backed from the room. He had a new mission. Fix food and get his woman in bed. He mulled those words around in his mind. His woman. Could he let her in?
He was still asking himself that when he tucked the covers around her and backed out of the room.
“You bastard! You low down dirty conniving bastard.” Gracie screamed at him.
“What she said.” Halo added from his place on the couch.
“How could you do that without even talking to either of us? Don’t you think we deserved to have some sort of say in our future.”
“I have to agree with her there too.”
Halo sat on the couch in Hendrix’s living room. He was wearing the face Gracie had labeled her hero face so many year before. His arms were crossed and fury radiated from his body. Jarrod sat beside him looking uncomfortable. He still had instructions to keep Halo in his sight or locked up at all times and unfortunately for him, Hendrix’s house was not off limits. Not only because Halo knew Hendrix but because Gracie had spent the remainder of the night inside the house. Which was why he was here, listening to what was shaping up to be the next world war or at least a domestic dispute of epic proportions.
“You both caused your future to twist when you sent that drone to spy on the wrong person. If you had left it alone, well, Gracie would still be pregnant but we won’t know what would have happened if both of you had not taken it upon yourselves to kill someone with no more evidence of wrongdoing that a brief video of something you neither one knew anything about. If you had stopped at the motel and asked Sara if she knew me. If you had researched your target better you would not be here like this. Sara would have contacted me and I would have come to see you at the motel. But you stepped foot in
