want to do. Now we have to find him. Keep digging.”
Two hours later Gracie lifted her head and raised her arms. Leaning back in the chair she stretched. “Not much on these people. You would think as rich as they are I would be able to find more. It is almost as if someone is hiding them.”
“Well, if that is where these elite soldiers are housed them I would say the government is hiding them. I would. Last thing you want, if you are creating monsters, are for the monsters to get out into the general public.”
“Halo, dammit, that is exactly what they are doing. Letting these monsters out where they can hurt innocent people. We have to tell someone.”
“No. We don’t. We aren’t telling anyone. We will find the base and we will gather intel. Then, when we have enough we can plan our next move. It may be he is a one off and nothing to do with the government. He might have joined so he could go other places and kill without the government getting involved. Think about it. Hendrix said he prefers Africa to any other country he has worked in, right?”
“Yes, he said he loves the freedom he has here.”
“Alright, what do we have that other countries he has worked in don’t?”
Gracie shrugged. “I don’t know where all he has worked. It isn’t like we talked much about our jobs.”
“We have a couple hundred people killed by lions every year. What if all those deaths aren’t lions?” He looked down as his computer dinged. A moment later he smiled. “Well, well, what do you know. Telu has not only authorized our vacation but he has put a couple of things in motion to make getting there a little easier.”
“How long does he give us?” Gracie stood up and walked to the small kitchenette. Calling over her shoulder she asked, “Do you want something to eat? I am starving.”
“We have one month paid vacation to Alaska.”
“Do you think he knows something?”
“Telu? I don’t think so but you never know what he might know. He wants us to clean up the house, he has another team he is sending. We won’t be coming back here. We also need to report in, he has questions about some of our paperwork from the last mission.”
“When do we leave?” Gracie asked.
“Here or for the United States?”
“Both.”
“He wants us in the office tomorrow so we need to leave two hours ago. Failing that he wants us there as soon as possible. As far as leaving for the United States,” he glanced back down at the message. “Says here our vacation starts in two weeks.” He shrugged. “Two weeks from now.”
“Halo? The map shows San Fransisco in California and Alaska is in Canada, well, above Canada. The two states are no where close to each other.”
“Hmm? Halo was rereading the message and didn’t look up immediately. “What did you say?”
“I said, you said Hendrix was going to San Fransisco and that is not in Alaska.”
“Yeah, no flight to Alaska from here. Has to fly into California then catch a flight to Anchorage. Guess he will drive from there. How far is that oil guy from Anchorage?”
Gracie scooped the plate of sandwiches up and walked back to her computer. Sitting down she gestured to the plate before pulling up the map of the state of Alaska. She scooted her notebook closer as she studied the notes she had on the mission so far. Shaking her head a few minutes later she murmured. “That is one big ass state. It will take him two days of driving to get to the oil tycoons place. I pulled a sat pic and it looks like they have a little town in the middle of the property. Nothing looks like a military base. Well, one building might be a barracks. Maybe a hundred houses scattered around. A few larger buildings but the houses, if that’s what they are, aren’t uniform. Not like on a military base where most things follow some sort of standard. Only one road into the place. I don’t know where the property starts but they have what looks like a helicopter pad on the property and the closest town has a small airport. If he flies into Anchorage he could probably get a helicopter to take him home. Oil tycoons have helicopters, this one does, otherwise why the helicopter pads. If he is going straight home then it will still take him a
