locks at the sight. It did nothing to me when I saw her hanging on Brady, but he's gay. Colby may be the one person here who could actually steal her from me, and I hate him for it.
Zayn, Knox and Delaney walk in and immediately go over to Lennon and her friends. Tessa beams when she notices her sister, and Knox greets Grayson. It's an odd sight to see, being as they're so different, but I guess he's all about changes lately. Girlfriend. Preppy best friend. Moved away from North Haven where everyone swore he would stay forever.
Lennon's confidence goes even higher as she has all her friends surrounding her, plus being in the arms of her stupid little playboy. Doesn't she realize she deserves so much better than someone whose body count is longer than a fucking phone number? No. He doesn't get to have her.
She's mine, whether she likes it or not.
AFTER GIVING THEM A little while to get comfortable, I grab a beer and head over to Knox. Him being here gives me the perfect excuse to infiltrate Lennon's little group. As expected, the second I approach, Knox smiles at me.
“What's up, man?” He gives me a bro hug.
I run my fingers through my still damp hair. “Not too much. You're back from Rhode Island?”
He nods. “Only for the week. Have to work and all that shit.”
Delaney rolls her eyes. “He doesn't have to work, he just likes to.”
“Shush, woman,” he quips. “Having a sugar mama isn't my style.”
Zayn laughs. “You say that, but you also had no problem taking the car she bought you a couple months ago.”
He narrows his eyes on his best friend. “Fuck off.”
“No, if anyone should fuck off, it's him,” Lennon says, her attention pointed at me.
The right corner of my mouth raises. “Aw, what's wrong? Only you can be a part of the cool kids?”
She goes to move, but Colby tightens his grip on her. “Leave it alone, babe.”
Babe. Fucking babe. The term of endearment alone has me seeing red, and it takes everything in me not to lose my shit. It was one thing, getting rid of Kellan. He fucked that relationship up all on his own. But Colby? From what I've noticed, he's her best friend, and she already knows how he is. If they get together, there won’t be anything I can do to push him out of my way.
“Careful, Colby,” the new blonde that Lennon showed up with today says. “Looks like you're making him jealous.”
Knox chuckles. “All right, enough of this shit. Cade's good people.”
“Was he good people when he told everyone he liked me better with his dick in my mouth because at least then I wasn't talking?” Lennon questions.
Knox cringes and looks over at me. “You really know how to fuck shit up, don't you?”
I shrug. “It's a hidden talent.”
Lennon sighs. “Whatever. I'm not going to let my night be ruined by the likes of you.” She turns to the blonde girl. “Savannah, come with me to take over the speaker system.”
“Bryce might have something to say about that.” I tell her.
She laughs dryly and looks me up and down. “Last time I checked, this isn't Bryce's house, and if you keep it up, it won't be yours, either.”
That comment should make me happy. That's part of what I've wanted this whole time. But it doesn't.
Not even a little.
SEEING LENNON IN HER element is like watching a rose bloom. She's gorgeous, even when she isn't trying, but when she's having a good time—my God, it's mesmerizing. I could spend the entire night just watching her.
Savannah's boyfriend, who I think is named Grayson, comes over and offers me a beer. My brows furrow in confusion, not knowing what the hell he wants, but I take it anyway. He nods to where Lennon and Savannah are dancing like professionals.
“So, you and Lennon?”
I snort. “Is that what you came over here for? To talk chicks?”
He grins. “Actually, I came over here to make sure you don't fuck it up. Lennon's one of my friends, and if your intentions are anything less than pure, Knox won't stop me from coming after you.”
“Is that supposed to scare me?”
“Not if you're doing nothing wrong.” He glances over to where Colby is standing with Asher and watching Lennon. “I don't think I'm the only one you'd have to answer to, though.”
“Who, Colby?” I size him up. “I'm not his focus. She is.”
Grayson nods. “Then you should probably make sure he
