way to know who ordered it.”
She asked, “Do you have any guesses?”
Silas didn’t even fight it that time, as he smugly said, “Not a clue.”
Well, shit, that was a worry for another day. We’d also kind of been expecting something like that. A rogue witch that possibly came up with the same idea that the one that’d caused me to be born in and bound to this world. I supposed there could be other reasons as well.
Ginny said, “Alright, now. Tell us of all your rogue associates, their names, cities, and what you know of what they get up to.”
Silas snarled and fought that one, hard, but then screamed shortly in agony as Violet did something with her magic and aura that was connected to his mind.
He started talking almost eagerly then, but shortly after regained his aplomb as his voice deepened and steadied, if not enough to dare to fight it again. The list was varied and long, in over twenty cities across the United States from Manhattan to Los Angeles. There were only four more shifters of alpha strength with independent packs that were truly rogue, but he also listed several vampires and witches he’d worked with, and one siren. Turned out siren rogues were rather rare as I’d been told. Lastly, he named three more city leaders that were corrupt and rogue themselves, one shifter alpha, and two vampire masters.
It took almost forty-five minutes to get all those details. Also, none of them were there in Chicago or the surrounding area. We’d done well and would have a lot of heads up information to send around the country to take down hundreds of rogues, but our jobs were done at that point with that issue.
Ginny asked, “Now, tell me about the fae you’ve worked with and know.”
It turned out Silas had one redeeming quality, because he looked absolutely horrified by the question, and said, “I’ve never worked with a fae, and I know of none to report.”
Ginny looked around, “Anything else?”
When there was no answer for several moments, she held out her hand to Tiffany. I wasn’t sure exactly what that meant, until Tiffany pulled her silver dagger and handed it over. Ginny unlocked the cell, went inside, and stabbed him right in the heart before twisting the blade. The rogue Silas was no more as his eyes grew glassy.
Ginny said, “I’ll have the teams compile all that information, and we’ll send it to the appropriate leaders in the various cities. That was more than I’d expected. Thank you for coming, Violet.”
Violet nodded slightly again, “My pleasure, alpha. We did a good thing tonight.”
I scented very little pleasure in Violet, but I did scent satisfaction in job well done. I decided it was merely a turn of phrase she’d adopted.
We escorted Violet back up, and bade her well, before calling it a day and retiring upstairs.
Almost immediately when we reached relative privacy, she said in a stubborn tone, “We need to assign a team for your morning and lunchtime commutes, or when you go out of the building. You’re pretty safe here, or at the witch mansion, but there’s lots of places you could be ambushed in between. If Silas hadn’t let his desire for revenge override his common sense, it’s quite likely he could’ve captured you.”
I frowned, “We knew this was a possibility, and I’ve been careful.”
I really didn’t like the idea of an escort. I was supposed to be head enforcer, not an asset to be guarded by one of my own teams. I didn’t like the idea at all, and I was all ready to set my feet and argue against it.
Then she smirked, and won the argument with a single point, “Tiff is with you when you commute.”
Oh, fuck me running. That was cheating. Of course I’d feel overprotective of my witch, and I’d never forgive myself if she died in an attempt to kidnap me.
She sighed, “We did know it was coming, probably. But we were expecting a lone witch, or some other rogue working on their own. This is different, some hidden rogue that even Silas had no clue who it was, has a lot of cash and resources to make it happen. It might even be a fae, we can’t assume some witch was behind it either.”
Tiffany nodded, “I agree. Let’s not get bogged down in the last fight, there could be lots of reasons to want to kidnap and… do something with the only angel in existence on this
