my head around, but all that surrounds me is Daria, the older man, and the bed I’m lying on in this sparsely furnished room. Dawn sunlight peaks through the large single window, so I know it’s almost morning. “Is he here?”
The older man’s lips thin. “He’s being dealt with. You don’t need to worry about him anymore. You’re safe now.”
I jump out of the bed, getting a surprised look from Daria. I race to the older man. “Where is he? Is he okay? Is he hurt?”
The older man and Daria share a confused look. Daria inches toward the door and says, “I’ll just be on my way, Wes, so you can deal with everything else. I’ll let Logan know that you’ve found Collin.” She frowns, and her eyes dim. “I’ll also let his parents know, but I’ll wait for you to break the news to them about what happens from here.”
Wes gives a curt nod, and Daria slips from the room. I never get a chance to properly thank her, but my heart is beating so hard I can barely breathe. My fingers tremble when I reach for Wes. “Please. Tell me where he is. Tell me that he’s okay!”
Wes takes a step closer to me, his confused expression still in place. “Brianna, is it?”
I nod distractedly.
“Am I understanding correctly that you’re worried about Collin Ward’s whereabouts? We are talking about the same person, correct? The person who abducted you and would have inevitably murdered you if we hadn’t stopped him?”
“Murdered me?” I shake my head rapidly. “No, he would never do that. I mean, at first his wolf tried, but that was weeks ago, but now, no! He’s not like that anymore.”
Wes’s eyebrows rise. “His wolf—” He scratches his chin. “You know about his wolf?”
“Yes, his rogue werewolf.”
Shock lines his face. “He told you about that?”
“Yeah, Collin told me, and he told me about the SF too.” I glance around the room again. “That’s where I am now, right? Somewhere that the Supernatural Forces controls?”
The grim expression on Wes’s face grows. “So not only did Collin abduct you, but he also told you about werewolves and the Supernatural Forces?”
I suck in a breath, wondering if I just got Collin in more trouble. “He only did it to protect me, to warn me about what would happen if we were caught. He was only thinking of my safety.”
Wes lets out a bitter laugh. “Your safety? I’m sorry to inform you of this, Brianna, but it seems you’ve been completely manipulated and used by him. Considering he’s gone rogue, that behavior doesn’t surprise me, but I’m sure all of this is very confusing for you.”
“No, I’m not confused.”
But he ignores my denial and reaches for my arm. “Since you’re fully healed now, you may return home soon, but first, we would like to ask you a few questions.”
I stiffen, just as we step into a hallway. “What kind of questions?”
Wes cocks his head. “Just a few questions from our team.”
My fingers tremble, and I dig in my heels. Collin told me this would happen. They’d first question me, then wipe my memory. I need to stay away from the sorcerers at all costs.
“I’ll answer your questions if you tell me where Collin is and how he’s doing.”
“That’s not how it works. You don’t get to negotiate—”
I rip my arm free from his grip and take off at a run down the hall. I can see I’ll get nowhere with Wes, and I know this is my only chance to find Collin. I know he’s going to be punished for what he did, most likely put to death, but even though I have no idea where I am or where he is, I have to try to find him.
Chapter 30 – Collin
My heart is ripping with each breath I take. I know Brianna’s probably dead. Even if they called Daria in to heal her, it doesn’t mean she got here in time.
I prowl around inside my cage, murder on my mind. They took Brianna away the second we landed, and nobody will tell me anything.
I smash my fist into the cage’s bars, making them rattle, but even that doesn’t squelch my frustration.
I’m still chained within the cage, and they’ve moved me into an underground holding facility. My beast howls within me, not from rage, but from pain. We failed to keep Brianna safe.
My mate is probably dead because of me. Because of us.
I tip my head back and howl, too, and before
