you seriously think I’m going to listen to anything you have to say? You lied to me and used me. Now move!”
“Brianna,” he pleads, but at least he respects that I asked him to move as he inches away.
I yank my door open.
His nostrils flare, but I refuse to meet his eyes. Instead, I slip into my seat and drive away.
Chapter 43 – Brianna
“You’ll never guess who’s standing outside your building even though it’s snowing out.” Macy snorts in disgust before letting the blinds fall back into place. She strolls across my room to plop on my bed. “You would think that after you left him standing on the street three days ago and have refused to talk to him since that he’d get the picture.”
“I know, right?”
She gives me a worried look. “It’s starting to border on obsessive, Bri. You sure he’s not a psycho?”
If you only knew. But I shake my head. “He’s not. He’s just persistent. He’ll lose interest eventually.” It’s probably just his bruised ego that’s keeping him out there anyway, but that’ll pass.
“Well his persistent ass can kiss my ass.” She laughs, and I try to join in, but it’s hard.
Even though it’s been three days since my run-in with Collin, my nerves haven’t calmed in the slightest. It doesn’t help that he’s been following me.
On Friday morning when I had class on campus, he was waiting for me by my building’s door. I bolted across the snowy lawn when I saw him and snuck in the back.
But only a few hours later, he was waiting outside the diner before my shift started. I entered through the maintenance door and had my co-workers serve Collin when he tried to sit in my section.
Thank the lord baby Cheez-its Macy flew in Friday night. And in a few weeks I’ll fly back to Arizona to see her and finally clean out my apartment. I need these distractions right now because Collin’s return has completely fried my composure.
For whatever reason, Collin seems determined to talk to me. I just hope that sooner or later he’ll give up. After all, I’m not actually his fated mate as Cali helped me learn, so I don’t know what the hell he wants from me.
I pause briefly, thinking of Cali. I haven’t seen her since the trial, but my grandparents tell me she returned to her pack in Wyoming. I did a bit of asking around about her and from everything I could find, she’s a decent person.
If only I’d listened to her.
The only blessing in this mess is that Macy’s here. She flew in Friday night for a weekend visit, and I’ve never been so happy to have her around. It’s only the second time she’s come to visit me since I moved to Montana, but the timing couldn’t have been better. Having her with me for the past two days has kept me occupied, especially when Collin’s been lurking around every corner trying to speak with me.
Macy toys with her dark hair, curling a strand around her finger. “You know, leaving him out in the cold serves him right. That fucker. What did he think? That he could use you, ignore you for months, and then come strolling back like nothing happened?”
I take a deep breath and shake my head, but I keep my gaze averted. Macy knows about Collin, but she doesn’t know about him. She knows that he’s the reason I left Arizona and that he helped me find my mom’s family. But beyond that, she doesn’t know the details.
She has no idea that I’m half-werewolf, or that Collin was in prison in the fae lands until apparently this week. She has no idea that I thought he was my fated mate or that the thought of life without him still leaves a gaping hole in my chest.
But she does know that he lied to me and broke my heart. And when it comes to girl-code that tells her everything important.
“Should we go out tonight?” Macy asks. She inches closer to the edge of my bed. “I mean, don’t get me wrong. It’s been fun hanging in your apartment watching all these movies and getting fat on chocolate, but I didn’t bring my stilettos along for nothing.”
I groan. “Girl. I’m sorry. You’ve been so amazing this weekend, and I’ve been such a downer.”
“No, not at all. But seriously, woman, the best way to get over a guy is to go out and find another one.”
She waggles her eyebrows,
