here now too. I’d heard at work that Pete was in town, and I figured somebody called him when they realized his brother was about to go mental.
Several times, Pete’s stopped Collin from vaulting across the bar when Tanner’s touched me. I don’t know why Collin’s acting like this when I’m just another ex of his, but my stomach is so tight at the tension strumming off him that I’ve been downing shots left and right.
The alcohol is helping my anxiety, and hopefully Pete will stop Collin from kicking the shit out of everyone. Cause I’m guessing if Collin hurts anyone, it will violate his parole, which probably means he’ll get a one-way ticket back to prison in the fae lands.
My forehead scrunches up as alcohol swims through my veins. I don’t actually know if felons in the supernatural community have parole or not.
Whatever the case, Pete now sits beside Collin at the bar. The fury pouring from my ex-boyfriend is enough to make my teeth chatter, but I imagine the only reason he hasn’t gone alpha on anyone is because so far all I’ve done is drink.
Either that … or, you know … parole.
But I don’t know if even Pete will be able to contain Collin if I leave with one of these guys. For whatever reason, my ex-boyfriend is acting as possessive as ever, which makes zero sense since we’re not together anymore.
“Want another?” Tanner asks. Without waiting for my reply, he slips a shot between my fingers.
My grip closes around the cool glass as a snarl comes from where Collin sits.
Tanner’s gotten a bit familiar with his hands, but every time his fingers have worked their way up my back or brushed too close to my breast, I’ve moved away.
I tell myself it’s to keep Collin from beating him to a pulp, but I would be lying to myself if I said that was the only reason.
The truth is that my heart still aches for Collin, and as much as that irritates me to no end, I can’t help how I feel.
But then I remind myself that those feelings are exactly why I’m here. However, going home with a dude with the intention of having drunk sex with him while your enraged ex watches from the sidelines is awkward with a capital A.
At least Macy’s enjoying herself. I have no idea what time it is, and I hope she’s keeping track. If not, she’s going to miss her flight.
“Want to dance?” Tanner asks. His eyes are glassy from the alcohol, and his touches are growing emboldened. He leans closer, and his lips brush against my ear. “Just one?”
I don’t have to look up to know that Collin’s just launched himself from his stool. Pete’s got his hands wrapped around my ex’s shoulders, but his expression’s strained as Collin tries to push him off.
“You know what? Yes, let’s dance!” I grab Tanner’s hand and pull him toward the dance floor.
Tanner grins, not seeming to care that touching me has put a target on his back, but again, I’m guessing this kind of stuff is normal in the werewolf world so Tanner probably doesn’t care.
His hands slide around my waist as I begin to sway to the beat. I close my eyes, and try to enjoy the moment, but when his head comes down and his scent washes around me, it feels …
Wrong.
I don’t have to pull away though. A roar breaks through the music, and in the next instant, Tanner is ripped away from me.
“Seriously!” Macy screams. She jumps out of the way as Tanner slides across the floor. “What the fuck, dude!” She pushes away from Devon just as I come face to face with my ex.
Collin’s seething and staring down at me. Veins pulse in his neck, and fury contorts his features.
He doesn’t even glance in Macy’s direction when she begins berating him for being a psycho ex-boyfriend and for throwing Tanner across the bar.
“Brianna,” he says tightly. “Enough of this game. I need to talk to you, and I’m not taking no for an answer anymore.” He grabs a hold of my arm and pulls me from the dance floor. A thrill runs through me at the feel of his skin touching mine, and I want to hit myself over the head.
How can I still react to him after what he’s done? I’m so fucking pathetic!
Macy claws at his hand, but I give her a reassuring glance and let Collin pull me away. She glowers
