and white daisies.
“Sorry,” Ava said.
Morgan glanced over to Kenny and found him also smiling at Ava.
“Thank you. Why don’t you come sit down?” Morgan said, patting the other side of him.
Logan pulled the blanket back over him and took a step back. Ava smiled brightly as she made her way over to the bed. She sat down carefully, making sure not to touch Morgan. He reached over and wrapped his arms around her. He was so happy she was safe. After a second, she hugged him back.
Kenny took the flowers from her and left to get a vase. Logan followed him out and closed the door, leaving Morgan and Ava in the room.
“I’m sorry,” Morgan said.
Ava shook her head. “I should be the one saying sorry.”
Morgan sighed. “I’m the adult, and I let you get hurt. I should have told you how important you were. How much we love you.”
Ava smiled brightly up at him. “Kenny said the same thing.” She looked down at her hands. “Thank you for coming for me.”
Morgan pulled her in for a side hug. “Anytime.” Morgan thought about waiting to bring up the mention of a doctor, but now was as good a time as any. “Ava, how would you feel seeing a doctor you can talk everything over with?”
Ava was silent for a long while, and Morgan almost told her to forget it.
“I don’t know. Do you think I need it?”
Morgan relaxed further in the bed. “Yes, but the important thing is, do you feel as if you need it?”
Ava rubbed a piece of hair between his fingers. “Can I do something like a trial? If I don’t like it, I don’t have to go anymore?”
Morgan nodded. “As long as you’re willing to give it a try.”
Ava smiled at him as she snuggled closer to him, mindful of his ankle.
Ava stayed with Morgan until he started to doze off. Kenny came back just as Ava left. Morgan tried to sit up and was promptly pushed back down.
“You need to rest,” Kenny said.
Morgan yawned. “I feel like that’s all I ever do.”
Kenny kissed his forehead. “Get some sleep. I’ll be right here when you wake up.”
Morgan hummed in response, sleep already taking over him.
Another two days passed before Morgan was cleared to leave the infirmary.
“I can’t wait to get into our bed,” Morgan said, not hiding any of his excitement. The infirmary beds were fine and all, but he was ready to be in his own bed, the one he shared with Kenny.
“I can’t wait to have you there with me.” Kenny wrapped his arms around Morgan and pulled him flush against his chest. But before they could kiss—
“Morgy,” Gabriella said, shouting his name as she entered the room. The Huning Prowl was still there, but only for one more day. Morgan was going to miss the adorable five-year-old that had everyone in Bliss Pride wrapped around her little fingers.
Morgan opened his arms, and she jumped into them.
“Hey, Gabriella.”
She promptly put a tiara on his head. “It’s tea party time.”
Morgan fixed his tiara. “All right, Lady Gabriella, I’ll be right there.” She wiggled free from his arms and ran out of the room. She had a ton of energy.
“She is a handful,” Kenny said.
Morgan had to agree. He couldn’t wait to have a handful of his own.
“They’re leaving tomorrow, right?”
Kenny was silent for a bit. “Well, the Huning Prowl is leaving, but I think Indigo and Gabriella might stay.”
Morgan turned to face his mate. “What?”
Kenny shrugged. “Indigo has requested a meeting with Dezi and Kash along with Hodge and Rudd.”
Morgan bit down on his lower lip. “Is it because he wants to be near Logan?”
Kenny sighed. “You picked up on that too?”
Who wouldn’t?
Kenny scratched at his chin hair. “I think they’re fated mates, but it’s just a guess.”
Morgan thought so too. The way Indigo looked at Logan, it was like he wanted to hold Logan close but couldn’t.
“We’ll be asking Logan if it’s okay first.”
Morgan hoped Logan said yes. One, Gabriella would get to stay, but two, Morgan really wanted his friend to find the same happiness he had.
Morgan stretched and took one step toward the door before he was swept off his feet. He let out an undignified yelp that tapered to a squeal.
“Kenny—”
His mate kissed him and took complete control of his mouth and his mind. When Kenny pulled back.
“Let me do this.”
There were so many unsaid words in that short sentence. Morgan could feel it, the anguish and guilt that bled into
