shook his head. Kenny laughed; he couldn’t help himself. The only one who thought his friend’s corny jokes were funny was his mate.
Logan rolled his eyes before turning his attention over to Kenny. “How’s he doing?”
Kenny touched the door to his room, thinking about his sweet mate sleeping soundly in their bed. “He’s doing good, just resting.”
Logan’s shoulders seemed to ease as he took in a reassuring breath. “Good.” He pointed a finger at Kenny. “I don’t recall saying he could leave the infirmary.”
Kenny quirked an eyebrow up at Logan. “I heard you tell him he could.”
Logan rolled his eyes. “Yes, after I checked him over again, but not to my surprise, when I went to check on my patient, he was gone.” Logan tapped his foot with his arms crossed over his small chest.
Logan was a spitfire to deal with even at work; he was a handful, but Kenny had long ago figured out how to get on Logan’s good side.
“One box to forget,” Kenny said.
Logan shook his head. “Make it three and we might have a deal.”
“What are you two talking about?” Cole asked, looking between them with a curious look on his smiling face.
“Two and I’ll throw in their limited-edition espresso blend,” Kenny offered.
Logan gasped. “There’s a new blend?”
Kenny nodded. He had him now.
“Deal,” Logan said as he turned around. He shrugged, glancing over his shoulder before heading down the stairs. “I would have just taken the special blend.” He stuck his tongue out before disappearing down the stairs.
Cole followed suit but stopped short. “Ava picked out a movie, so you guys better hurry up.”
“What did you just do to win Logan over?” Dezi asked.
“Sold my soul,” Kenny answered.
Rhy burst out with laughter. “It sounded like it, but now I know why Logan bothers you the least out of all of us.”
Dezi crossed his muscular arms, stretching his dinosaur-themed shirt.
“I want to know how you did it.”
Kenny shook his head. “I have to go wake my mate.”
Dezi and Rhy both grinned at him. “Yeah, we have a movie to watch.”
Kenny turned away from his laughing friends and headed back into his room where the scent of his mate filled the space.
How was Kenny able to even bear being in the room before without Morgan’s scent in there?
He took in a calming breath. His mate was there now. His eyes traveled over to the bed to find Morgan’s head was now at the foot of the bed, the blankets kicked off and onto the floor. A smile tugged at his lips as he watched his mate sleep for another minute before making his way over to him.
Kenny brushed the soft dark strands on Morgan’s head back. Morgan made a snorting sound as he mumbled in his sleep, his mouth slightly open and drool pooling on the bed. Kenny leaned over and placed a kiss to Morgan’s cheek.
“It’s time to wake up, love.”
Morgan gave another snort and turned his head over, smacking his lips.
Damn he is just too adorable.
“Come on, my sweet Piglet, it’s time to wake up,” Kenny said softly against Morgan’s ear.
Morgan mumbled again, and Kenny caught a few of the words.
“Cold. Sleep. Mate.”
Kenny ran his fingers down Morgan’s spine, watching as his mate squirmed under his touch. Morgan slowly lifted his head, his sleepy, dark eyes blinking up at Kenny.
“Why are you out of bed?”
Kenny continued to touch his mate, unable to stop. Just the simple gesture was enough to keep his snow leopard in check. The need to mate was there, driving him nearly insane, but he’d meant it when he told Morgan he would wait. But waiting with his mate in his arms and bed made suppressing the need harder and easier all at the same time. Harder because Kenny wanted the bond between them more than ever, and easier because as long as they stayed close, there was none of the pain and sickness.
“It’s movie night downstairs, and Ava chose a movie.”
Morgan rubbed his eyes, leaning closer to Kenny. “Do you think she’s happy?”
Kenny sighed. “I’m not sure, but it’s up to us to make her happy, right?”
Morgan turned to look up at Kenny. “Are you okay with that?”
Kenny tilted his head to the side, trying to understand what Morgan was asking of him.
Morgan chewed on his bottom lip, and Kenny eased the poor abused flesh from his teeth, rubbing it with his thumb.
“Am I okay with Ava staying here in the pride?” Kenny guessed.
Morgan nodded and lowered his eyes. “I mean, she’s
