You’re going to be late.” He let go of Kirk and fell back on the bed. From that point he was only too happy to keep his mouth shut as his smart, funny, capable and oh so cute boyfriend got ready for what might just go down as the defining moment in his life.
Again, it needed to be emphasized that Lance really was proud of Kirk. The Kirk he met two months ago would never have had the self-confidence to stand up in front of a room full of adult strangers and deliver a paper that he had written on his own. But then again, there was a lot about Kirk that had changed over the past month that Lance loved.
Physically, Kirk was really starting to come into his own. Not only was this a delight on the eyes, but it made for an infinitely more enjoyable bedroom experience. Not that this would have bothered Lance anyway. Kirk’s attraction had always been his brain. That was what drew Lance to Kirk.
A perfect example of this was Lance’s business idea. A month ago, he had been treading water, ready to sink and give up. But then Kirk came along and—
Lance scrunched his eyes, gave his head a shake and quickly pushed all thoughts of his business out of his head. He had been trying desperately over the past few days to not give it so much as a passing glance.
“Do you want to go over your speech again?” Lance tried in an effort to push all thoughts of protein smoothies and macros out of his mind.
“It goes for two hours,” Kirk pointed out as he slipped into his jacket. “And I need to be downstairs in five minutes.”
“The highlight reel then?”
Kirk beamed at Lance, then turned back to get one final look at himself in the mirror. “There. How do I look – full honesty, please.”
“I’d fuck you,” Lance said seriously.
“Great, that’s just what I was going for. If the presentation fails, maybe the whole thing will just descend into a mass orgy.”
Lance jumped up from the bed and stood behind Kirk. He rested his hands on Kirk’s hips, straightened his posture and kissed him on the back of the neck. “You look great. You’re going to do great. Seriously... I could not be prouder.”
The suit was picked out by Lance, of course. Style had never been Kirk’s strong suit. It was a navy-blue suit, paired with a pink shirt and sock combination, and brown shoes. That along with his straighter posture, broader shoulders and thicker arms made him look damn fine. If there was one other gay man in the audience, Lance was sure they wouldn’t hear a word he said. They’d be too busy ogling.
“I may as well go,” Kirk sighed with regret. He looked at himself again and Lance could feel that old Kirk rearing his ugly head. “Get this over with...”
“Oi.” Lance slapped Kirk on the arm. “None of that.” He pushed one hand into Kirk’s back and held the other on his chest. “Puff that chest out. Deep breaths. You own that room, Kirk. You own everyone in it. All right.”
Kirk hesitated.
“All right?” Lance pushed.
“You’re right.” Kirk took a deep breath, then straightened up. “You’re right. They're my little bitches, aren’t they?”
“You know they are,” Lance said seriously. He slapped Kirk on the butt and directed him toward the door like a drill sergeant. “You go. But look for me in the crowd.”
“Front seat?” Kirk double checked as he made his way toward the door.
“Front and center, baby,” Lance winked. And then Kirk was gone.
Alone now, Lance started to get ready. As it was his presentation, Kirk needed to be down in the forum thirty minutes before the actual presentation started, which was why he’d had to leave. Lance had more than enough time.
It was lucky too that he wasn’t on stage, so he could dress a little more casually and Hawaii-appropriate. For him, that meant sandals, shorts and a bright yellow Hawaiian T-shirt. It wasn’t exactly the height of fashion, but he was hot and he was on holidays, so he could pull it off.
Honestly, this whole Hawaii experience was turning out better than Lance could have ever expected. Even putting aside the Symposium, being here with Kirk was a dream come true; a dream he didn’t even realize he’d been having until it actually happened. Lance had always assumed that he was destined to be alone; so much in fact that he hadn’t even
