on anyway. Lance liked him enough that he wanted to keep training him. He wanted to keep seeing him! That was what this was.
And yes, Kirk was aware that Lance hadn’t mentioned the kiss the two had shared. If anything, he’d actively avoided it. This obviously meant that it was a spur of the moment thing that wouldn’t be happening again. But truth be told, that was actually a small relief. If Lance had even hinted that he was interested in exploring that kiss a second time, Kirk might have just passed out on the spot.
Again, it needed to be mentioned that Lance was just too high up the food chain for a guy like Kirk. The most he could hope for was a strong friendship and, when considering the circumstances, that was fine by him. What started as a terrible day had taken a sudden, most unexpected turn. Maybe life wasn’t so bad after all.
Chapter Ten
Lance didn’t understand what was going on; he could not have been more in the dark, really. He wished he knew. He lay awake at night, staring at the ceiling, trying to comprehend how he had gotten here... and what he could do to escape. Surely, an answer containing some trace of logic would make itself known? Surely, this was just a phase, or a weird moment, or a crisis of character? Surely, tomorrow he would wake up and everything would be fine. That was what he had hoped at first, anyhow.
But this wish was never meant to be. Instead, after two full weeks of hanging out with Kirk almost every single day, Lance was forced to admit one undeniable truth: he was starting to have feelings for Kirk Little.
It was early in the morning, just after seven. Lance wished he could have blamed the time for how muddled his thoughts were, as if being tired somehow had an effect on his sexual attraction. But that was just silly.
He was in the locker room, waiting for Kirk to arrive so they could pump out a session. Once that was done with, they would part ways for the day and then meet up in the afternoon to go over ‘the books’ as they had started calling it. This was essentially just Kirk reading everything that Lance had pulled together in regard to his business, and then trying to fashion it into some sort of business model. It was clear that Kirk was no expert at this, but he tried his hardest and Lance was beyond appreciative for it. Heck, it was a very large facet behind the feelings he’d developed for the guy.
Seriously! What was going on? Lance was sitting on a bench, ready to go. He’d been ready for ten minutes, having gotten to the gym early so that he could be ready. It was so unlike him. His stomach was in knots, his legs were shaking and his breathing was labored. He knew this feeling of course. It was one he’d experienced a couple of times in his life... but never one he’d thought would happen with a guy like Kirk. It was just so fucking strange and unexpected.
Growing up, Lance had always been ‘one of the boys.’ He had been tall for his age, athletic, and an over-achiever when it came to all things physical. From being a member of the state champion swim team, to competing in triathlons, right on down to his winning of the chicken nugget eating contest in grade twelve of high school, Lance had to compete and he had to win.
What came with this competitive, athletic persona was popularity, admiration from others and, of course, women. As a teen too, Lance had had girlfriends. He’d even slept with a few of them and told himself he liked it. Women loved him, so why shouldn’t he love them back? It was only a drunken night during his first week of university that made him realize that men were more his speed, and then a lot of sober nights after this to confirm the fact. But once he came out, Lance came to realize that men liked him just as much.
Lance was in amazing physical shape. He was also very good looking. This wasn’t him being a douche but being factual. The guys he slept with were all of the same he-man, muscular, a little too into themselves, kind of ilk. All of which was fine with Lance. His relationships were always physical, short lasting, and usually pretty unsatisfactory.
