the disbelief all over her face. Now more than ever, I want her to believe me. Well, it’s as good a time as any …
Phasing into my dimension, I stand in the gateway between Earth and my personal space, watching to see if she can still see me. Lilibeth’s eyes remain on me. “So … where is this alien now? I want to see an alien.”
Stepping away from her, I walk across the living space to where Alisha stands immobile. “Can you see me, Alisha?” Waving my hand in front of her, I wait and watch Lilibeth to make sure she notices.
When Alisha doesn’t respond, I raise my eyebrows at Lilibeth, who walks over to Alisha and me with confusion clear on her face. “What’re you doing? Is this a joke?”
Phasing completely back into the room, I turn to Lilibeth. “You’re looking at one.” I smile like I’ve shown her the greatest thing ever, but she just scowls. “I’m not kidding. I’m an alien.”
When she scoffs and turns around to walk away, I grab her upper arm, spinning her around. “Now, I know you don’t believe me right this second, but let’s talk about what happened here. Then … I guarantee, I can prove to you I’m really an alien.”
I can’t keep the elation out of my voice while I smile like a fool. I’ve found my mate! For sure.
She could definitely see me when I was in my own dimension, and according to Payak, that’s the ultimate test. That and phasing with her. Something I’ve never attempted with anyone because of the risk.
Plus, I’m extremely attracted to her and have been since the instant we met. Whenever we touch, there’s a strange recognition throughout my body that feels like a high-level vibration. Now though, I know for sure she can see me when I phase, too!
Still standing with her arms crossed, Lilibeth doesn’t smile at my guarantee. “So, Alisha, you’re getting this?”
Alisha nods, stepping away from us to head to the back of the apartment while I explain further what I believe. “From what I see here …” I gesture to the man, “That’s Brad Nixon, we can assume. He met with Daniel Ingolfur, and somewhere along the lines …” I point to the naked woman, “… he was introduced to this woman.”
“Here.” Alisha holds out a matchbook from the countertop. The Spot is written in bold letters on the flap. “They could have stopped here on the way back to this residence?” Her gaze locked to mine, she adds, “It’s on the way here from the airport.”
I pass the matchbook to Lilibeth, gesturing to the naked woman. “So … Brad meets a woman who’s willing to come over and entertain him for the evening. It looks like he had her here when he changed. The transitioning process varies … that’s the period that they’re comatose. Anyway, these two have been here together, and then when the cleaning ladies showed up yesterday, they ambushed them. That’s why this one is so ... eaten. Too bad.”
Lilibeth is still listening as I wind down, but she’s now moved into the hall, opening and closing a closet and then a small washroom. Alisha exits the back bedroom, and they pass each other in the hall. “Is this the truth? Are you an alien too?”
Alisha cocks her head, giving Lilibeth a strange look. Ignoring Lilibeth, Alisha walks back to me in the living space. “I don’t understand why you’re blowing our cover story. Aren’t you worried about the Sovereignty? This is accessible almost instantly.” Tapping her temple, I know she’s referring to her life upload. And she’s right.
“They don’t review that stuff—ever—unless necessary. I need to go and notify Payak so he can help me arrange a clean up here … and get these infected into one of the holding facilities. You should be fine to take Lilibeth’s vehicle to this … bar?” I wave the matchbook, flipping it over and reading the address. “We need to make sure no one else was exposed there—”
“Hey! You can’t just offer my car to her.” Lilibeth has practically shot out of one of the back bedrooms at my suggestion, and I can’t help but smile at how feisty she is. Facing Alisha, she quizzes her, “Do you even have a license? I’ll be on the hook if you get into an accident and I loaned it—”
“If she gets into an accident, you can say she stole it.” Teasing her, I walk in between them, bending
