face.
I whisper in her ear “It’s okay Sofia, it was just a drink.” I glare at the guy, knowing it was far from an accident.
“I think you should walk away,” I say through gritted teeth.
He ignores me and looks directly at Sofia, then sneers. “You break up with me, and within days you’re all cozy with another man.”
Brad steps between us. “Thomas, man, I think you should go.”
He glares at him for a minute before saying, “It was you.” He starts pushing Brad. “You did this. You stole it. Why didn't I see this earlier? You bastard, you ruined everything.”
Security heads our way, but I hold tight to a wriggling Sofia in my arms. I nip her earlobe to distract her before murmuring, “If I let you go are you going to attack him again?”
She stops wriggling, the fight leaving her, and shakes her head as security reaches us.
“Is everything okay here, Miss Winters?”
“I think Mr. Peters here is in need of some fresh air. Can you escort him out, please?” Brad says with a controlled yet assertive tone.
Yep, knew I was going to like this guy.
The large security guy places a hand on Thomas’s arm.
“Get your hands off me. I have every right to be here!” Thomas slurs, but doesn’t fight anymore when he realizes he’s drawn the attention from people around us. “I was about to leave anyway,” he adds, then stumbles his way to the nearest exit door.
The security guys trail him.
The guy behind the bar brings us new drinks. “Thought you might need these.”
We thank him and then the girls raise their glasses to toast.
“To finally being rid of that douchebag,” Maya says.
“And to Brad for making that possible,” Sofia finishes.
I tilt my head, not understanding what she means. “I think there’s a story there.”
“There is,” Maya says. “And it’s a good one.”
We clink our glasses and drink.
“Maybe you and Jett should go have that chat now,” Maya says, snuggling into her husband's arms.
I look at Sofia, who smiles at me. “Let me say goodnight to my parents. I’ll be right back.” She lifts up on her toes and kisses my cheek before her tight ass sways while she walks away.
“Okay, buddy.” Maya pulls me to face her.
Brad’s expression is stern.
Fuck, what did I miss?
“We know your brother is like some badass biker dude and all, and could probably murder us, and they would never find our bodies, but—”
I piss myself laughing, holding on to my stomach.
“What she’s trying to say is, no matter who your brother is, you do anything to hurt our girl, there will be problems. I’m a PI, I know how to make things look like an accident.”
I stop my laughter and look between the two of them. Yep, I definitely like these two.
I nod. “I will never intentionally hurt her. She’s a light I’ve never had in my life, and I want to see where this goes.”
A hand slides around my waist. “What’s with the serious faces?”
I wrap my arm around her waist, too, and kiss her forehead. “Nothing at all. I’m just getting to know your friends.”
She puts her hand to my chest. “You're so full of it.” She turns to Maya and Brad, hugging them both.
I shake Brad’s hand and am surprised when Maya hugs me.
“You take care of my girl.”
I pull back and wink at her. “Always.”
Taking Sofia’s hand in mine, we leave the ballroom. When we get to the foyer, I lead her to the revolving door, but she breaks away from me and heads to the elevators.
I stay where I am. “Sofia?”
She pulls out what looks like a hotel room key and presses the button. “You see, whenever we’re here for this event, we always stay in one of the suites, as it can be a long night.” The doors ping before opening. She puts her arm in, keeping the door open. “You coming?”
“Not before you, I won’t.”
She giggles as a blush tints her checks and her blue eyes flash with excitement. I stride after her and lift her into my arms. She squeals as the doors close when my lips crush hers.
“I’m so happy you’re here with me.”
“Me too, princess. Me too.”
