rich it was on his tongue, how it soothed his throat as it slid down. Bennett’s groans of approval for his dessert only served to stir Jordan’s blood.
“That good, huh?” he asked with a smirk.
“You have no idea,” Bennett said, grinning unashamedly. “It’s the one thing I know how to bake. And though this is really good, mine is better.”
“You bake, huh?”
“I do. You should come over some time and try out my homemade desserts.”
Jordan’s dick pulsed in his pants with the direction his thoughts had taken at that comment. What he wouldn’t give to ‘try out’ Bennett’s homemade anything at all! He cleared his throat and swallowed. Bennett was waiting for some kind of response. Should he put himself in that kind of precarious situation, knowing how deep his attraction to Bennett was already getting? Or should he run as fast as he could in the opposite direction?
The waiter approached with their bill and Jordan handed him his card. As the young man walked away, he turned his gaze back to Bennett’s face. What should he say in response to that invitation? Definitely not what he’d been thinking a moment before. He should just play it cool, act like a grownup and say…
“Just say when.”
Well, fuck! That was not what he’d meant to say. And certainly not in that tone of voice, like he was trying to seduce Bennett, because he wasn’t. Not at all…was he?
“I’ll be out of town for a few days, so what say we wait until next Friday?”
“I’ll bring dinner since you’re making dessert.”
Again with the running off at the mouth…his dick was running the show, it seemed. He’d just have to try harder to control his tongue. Thoughts of his tongue did not help him regain the control he was seeking, so he was almost ecstatic when the waiter returned with the receipt for him to sign. He put his card back in his wallet and stood.
“Ready to go?”
He stepped away from the table and Bennett stood with him, following him out of the now quite crowded pub into the cool night. Jordan wished he had insisted on picking him up, so they could spend a little more time together in the car before he dropped him home. The evening was ending, and he was fighting the disappointment he felt about having to say goodbye in the parking lot. He still wasn’t ready to part ways, but there was nothing he could do now.
“Hey, are you in a hurry?”
Jordan’s ears perked up and his heart skipped a beat. “No. Why?”
“Ever been stargazing?” Bennett asked, looking up at the night sky.
“Not really. If I’m where I can see them on a clear night, I look up, but I don’t think that’s what you mean.”
Bennett laughed. “It isn’t. I’m fascinated by the heavens at night, and I’ve started a new series of photo shoots of the night sky. Which has led me to do a little research on astronomy.”
“You wanna go stargazing with me now?”
Jordan looked up at the sky as well, pretending that he was doing what Bennett had been doing before, when all he was really doing was avoiding looking at him for fear he’d do something completely inappropriate like maul him and suck his face. The thought of being out with Bennett under the stars watching the night sky was more romantic than anything he’d ever heard before, but he knew that that wasn’t what Bennett was suggesting. They barely knew each other still, despite their dinner conversation. He wouldn’t be stupid.
But if that’s not what Bennett wanted, why was he proposing an extension of their date? Damned good question, for which Jordan had no ready answer. Instead, he refused to get his hopes up and just waited for Bennett to answer him, keeping his face neutral when he finally looked down at him again.
“It’s a beautiful night,” Bennett replied eventually. “A walk under the stars would be a cool way to end a great date with a hot guy.”
Say what now? Jordan watched Bennett studiously avoid looking at him as he stopped speaking. He knew his face must be showing the shock he was feeling at the unexpected and thrilling compliment. So he was a hot guy, was he? If only Bennett knew. He swallowed, trying to find some cool way to respond.
“Thanks.” Lame, dude! “I’ll take ‘hot’ over ‘old’ every time.” Because it was true, so why hide it? “And sure, I don’t mind a walk under the stars.”
He quoted Bennett
