mates!” Katarina screamed shrilly. “She stole my life!”
“No, you idiot!” Tatiana snapped, no longer caring about Katarina’s feelings. “You forfeited your own life! I can’t believe it took me so long to see it.” And to think she’d wasted the last four years of her life, of her mates’ lives, for this selfish bitch. Eilea moaned, and Tatiana spun around only to run smack into Sitri.
He shot two darts into her leg, and she cried out as her wolf vanished again. Her legs suddenly felt heavy, as if they were each weighted with concrete blocks. Not again! Her knees buckled and she collapsed, barely aware of Katarina screaming her name. Her tongue and eyelids grew heavy.
Sitri stared down at her. “Ah, Katarina. What a clever little pet you are. Thank you for capturing the witch for me. And now my sweet little wolf has her virgin body back, I will have so much fun with her.”
Chapter Ten
“TATIANA!”
Her eyes flew open, and she looked into the strange yet familiar face of a pretty, young, blonde woman. Though her mind was a mess, memories came back to her. A demon had kidnapped her and then stolen her body!
She tried to sit up but was jerked to a stop. Her wrists were bound! Her legs were free, exposed to the elements as she wore nothing but a flimsy hospital gown. She angled her head, frowning at the chains that bound her wrists to the iron frame of a narrow cot. This was the bed Katarina had been chained to earlier, but now her mother-in-law was sitting beside her without shackles. Had she been working for the demons the entire time?
“Where are your chains?” Tatiana snarled.
Katarina had the decency to hang her head, fingering the red welts on her wrist. “Sitri released me because I helped him catch Eilea.”
Fucking bitch! She should never have asked Eilea to help her. The pain of Katarina’s betrayal cleaved her heart in two. “Where is she?”
“With the demons.” Katarina sat on the bed beside Tatiana. “They have brought in a Russian doctor to deliver the baby.”
Tatiana’s stomach churned. “What will they do to them?” She would never forgive herself if they harmed the baby. She’d been a fool to ask Eilea to help her free Katarina, who deserved to rot in hell another thousand years for her crimes.
Katarina picked grime from under her fingernails. “I don’t know.”
Katarina was lucky Tatiana was chained up and poisoned with amethyst, because she wanted nothing more than to claw her eyes out. “This is all your fault!”
“I didn’t mean for this to happen.” Katarina’s voice became childlike. “I only wanted to kill Eilea.”
“Oh, that’s all you wanted to do?” Tatiana snorted. “Murder a pregnant woman? Why didn’t you say so? I guess you’re not so evil after all.” If Tatiana could have kicked herself, she would have. Four fucking years wasted for this travesty of a shifter.
Crossing her arms, Katarina stomped like a toddler on the verge of a tantrum. “She stole my mates.”
“She did not. She bonded with them long after your death.” All that time in hell, and Katarina hadn’t learned being a vindictive bitch didn’t pay off?
She snarled, her eyes turning a blinding white. “They cared nothing for me once they caught her scent.”
Katarina could access her wolf, and she hadn’t bothered to help Tatiana escape? What the hell was she waiting for? “And you care nothing for anyone except yourself.”
“I care about my sons.” She patted Tatiana’s leg. “I want to see them happy and don’t want them to lose their mate.”
Liar. “What about their stepmom or the innocent baby in her womb?”
Pursing her lips, she traced the top swell of her breast, generously exposed by her low-cut shirt. “I will plead with Sitri to spare the child.”
Meaning she’d fuck him to get her way. “Aw, how kind you are.” Tatiana gave her a pointed look. “And what about the woman whose body you stole?”
“Who cares?” She let out a grating laugh. “She was the human mistress of a mobster.”
Tatiana didn’t know who the bigger monster was, Sitri or Katarina. “It wasn’t for you to judge whether or not her life was worth discarding.”
“How are my mates?” she asked in a sing-song tone, oblivious to Tatiana’s consternation.
Focusing on Katarina’s serene expression, Tatiana pressed her neck against the iron bars, unmindful of the discomfort. This woman really was demon-shit crazy. “Content to have a mate who is actually kind and loving.”
“I have done a lot of thinking during my
