about the money or the opponent.”
He plucks a long weed from beside his foot and twirls it between his fingers.
“I guess I can understand why Coach fired me,” Taylor admits. “I’m just still heated about it. I turned to drinking when I couldn’t fight anymore. It’s taken a long while to get to the place I’m at now.”
Taylor stands and turns to face me.
“What is it you need to know about his daughter?” he asks. “I don’t know much about her apart from the fact that she does all of the paperwork for her father. I’ve never talked to her or even see her outside of the gym.”
I look at Wolf, and he shakes his head. We must be thinking the same thing.
This man has no idea where my woman is.
“Jessa was kidnapped,” I tell him. “We’re just trying to figure out who took her and where they took her.”
“Thank you for speaking with us, Mr. Wentwood,” Wolf says.
Without another word, I step around the man and head for my bike.
“Wait,” Taylor calls. “Tell Coach that I’m sorry.”
I stop and turn around.
“I’m afraid that isn’t possible,” I tell him.
“Well, why not?”
Turning, I straddle my bike.
“Because Coach is dead.”
Not wanting to waste any more time, I start my Harley and drive off.
Twenty minutes into our drive, we pull off at a gas station to refuel.
My thoughts are so far away that I don’t hear my phone ring.
“Brother,” Wolf says. “That’s the third time your phones went off.”
I grab the phone out of my pocket and notice I have three missed calls from Slim.
“It’s Slim,” I say.
I hit Slim’s name and wait for him to answer with the hope that Trigger and Ink had better luck than we did.
“Hey, big guy,” Slim answers. “We may have been a little too lenient.”
“Why do you say that?” I ask.
“First off, did you find anything out with Taylor Wentwood?”
“Nothing that can help us find Jessa,” I admit.
“That’s what I thought,” he says. “Listen, come back to the farm. Trigger and Ink are already on their way. I think I found something, Brick. I think I found out who took her. I just don’t know why.”
“We’ll be there in fifteen.”
“Let’s hit the pavement, brother,” Wolf says.
I spent the fifteen-minute trip trying to focus my mind. This past week has been the hardest of my life. I haven’t eaten or slept enough to keep a baby alive, which is making it even more difficult to focus.
But I know I won’t be able to relax for even a second until I have my woman back.
I try not to think about how scared she is or what she’s going through. I made that mistake the first couple of days and wound up yelling at my mother. She understood, but my father has been glaring at me ever since.
Not that I blame him. I feel guilty as hell about it and have apologized profusely.
“Has he told you anything?” Trigger asks, climbing off his bike.
Wolf and I pulled into the driveway of my parent’s farms seconds after Trigger and Ink.
I shake my head and walk into the house.
I stop by the kitchen and kiss my mom on the head.
“You’ve been doing too much,” I tell her. “As much as we appreciate it, you need to rest.”
Mom has been cooking non-stop for the guys over the past week. She’s scared for Jessa, and as strange as it sounds, it makes me smile. I love how close my mother and my woman have gotten over the months.
“I just want to make sure you all have one less thing to have to worry about,” she says, flipping a porkchop. “I’ll keep you fed. That way, you can focus on bringing my girl back home.”
“We’re fine, mama,” I say. “We can order pizza if need be. I don’t want you on your feet this long.”
“Hush it, boy,” she admonishes me. “I know my limits. Now, you go in there with your brothers and find out where my sweet Jessa is. And when I bring you food, you eat it this time.”
I smile. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Where’s Thea and Brendon?” Bear asks as I find a seat.
“They’re staying with Ma and Ace until I’m finished here,” Trigger answers.
“Wait, did Ace move in with her?” Ink asks.
“No,” Bear answers. “Ace bought them a nice little house. They moved in last week.”
“Bear thinks they’re moving too fast, but I disagree,” Slim says. “I don’t understand how you don’t believe in love at first sight when you practically melted at Rose’s
