a year before being patched in.
Now, I’m the Treasurer for the Infernal Sons. Bass died some years back, and now his son, Bear, fills his shoes as club president.
I raise my fist and pound on Bear’s office door.
“What the fuck, man?” he shouts from inside. “Come in before you break my door down.”
I chuckle and open the door.
“Prez,” I greet.
“Brick, something I can help you with?” he asks.
“Actually, yeah,” I admit.
My brothers have been worried about me lately. I started cage fighting about a year ago. At first, I did it to raise some money. My parents are getting up there in age and could really use extra help to keep the farm running.
I visit my parents often, but I have no interest in returning as a farmer. I help out as often as I can, but I can’t find the enjoyment in the work like my old man does.
I earned enough money fighting that my parents don’t have to worry about anything for years to come.
Now I fight for the pure fun of it. That is until my focus switched to Jessa. Each day that passed without finding her, the angrier I got. I did some pretty intense damage to a few fighters.
“You finally going to let me in on what the fuck you’ve been up to?” he asks.
I nod.
“About damn time,” he grumps. “Do you want the guys in on this conversation?”
I think about it for a second and decide that it’s probably for the best. I want to get through this conversation as fast as possible so that I can get back to the hospital, preferably before my woman wakes back up.
“Tell them to hurry it up,” I say. “I need to be somewhere in about an hour.”
While Prez calls in the Sons, I head upstairs to my personal room. As I pass Trig's room, I reach out and crack open his door. I know he’s focused on Thea at the moment, but when he does make it back here, he’ll notice.
Then probably come after me because I’m the only one stupid enough to go near his room. He doesn’t have anything to hide. He just doesn’t like his stuff messed with.
I chuckle at the thought of Trigger beating my ass when he finds out. I’m a big man. I’m called Brick for a reason. But, damn it, Trigger always finds a way to bring me down to his level with a major ass-kicking.
I turn back to his room with mischief on my mind, reach in towards the table near the door, and poke a picture frame until it barely moves.
Wonder how long until he notices that?
“He’s going to kick your ass,” Bear chuckles from behind me. “Again.”
“Probably,” I agree. “But I can’t help but poke the grumpy bear.”
“Everyone will be here in about ten minutes,” Prez informs me. “Well, except Trigger. He won’t leave Thea alone at the hospital. He’s in extreme protective mode and probably will be for a while to come.”
I can understand that now more than ever. The need to get back to the hospital is a tough battle to fight against. But in order to protect Jessa, I need help.
Ten minutes later, the church room door closes, and everyone waits for me to start.
“You all know my parents,” I begin. “Tending to the farm and all of its responsibilities was starting to affect my father. So, I wanted to raise enough money to help them out. I searched around and found an underground fighting gig. I fought for a few months, winning all of my fights, and was able to raise enough so that my parents can hire more help and still have money left over.”
“Well, that explains all the cuts and bruises,” Ink says. “Why would you keep it from us, brother? I would have liked to watch you kick some ass.”
I chuckle.
“I didn’t intentionally mean to keep that part from you,” I admit. “I never had any intention of fighting after I raised enough money.”
“But it turns out you liked it, huh?” Chains asks, smirking.
“Fuck yeah, I do.”
My admission causes my brothers to hoot and holler.
“I still fight because it’s something I love doing. But that’s not why I asked you all here.”
“Before we continue with whatever you’re about to say,” Hawk interrupts. “I just want it thrown out there that I will be at your next fight, you sneaky bastard.”
I smile as all the guys shout their agreement.
“Anyway,” I say. “Coach, the owner of the company, asked if I
