head? Shit. That sounds a bit crazy.”
I was tempted to tease him but instead I blushed. “No, you aren’t crazy… I can’t usually do this with most people. It’s because I feel an emotional connection to you. Clearly different from the one with your sister… but yeah, talk about showing my cards.”
Whatever I said made him surge forward to press another hot kiss to my lips, my fox producing a whine of need as he spoke in a rough voice. “Angel, I would talk to you however I possibly can, but fuck, your voice is beautiful.”
“I missed you the past few days, is that weird?” I felt like a total weirdo because right now I was feeling practically high off of everything that was Luca.
A serious look overtook his face as he spoke softly. “I am so sorry that we couldn’t leave the pack lands, angel. I missed you too. One of our young shifters had a problem with his first shift and it set off several of the younger ones that hadn’t been ready yet. They are okay now but it required a lot of power to keep them calm and ensure they could shift back. Hunter passed out a half an hour ago because he hasn’t slept in days. Dylan is probably on his way also, I came to see if you wanted to come over tonight instead of tomorrow. I know it’s probably important for you to stay here and adjust to all of this but--”
“I want to,” I relayed softly and right away. “I need a break from accounting books, anyway.” I was tempted to see if he could communicate back mentally, but right now it didn’t matter to me. I was just glad he could hear me.
His eyes snapped to the books, and he chuckled softly. “Are you doing those for my sister?”
I shrugged. “She’s letting me stay here for free, least I could do. Plus, I sort of enjoy it.”
“The fact that you enjoy accounting shouldn’t be sexy but it is...” He mumbled, sounding confused before shouting. “Colette’s coming to stay with us, Lena! Lock the door behind us.”
“Tell him to stop being so damn loud and that he’s annoying.” Lena’s voice broadcasted in my head, I snickered and Luca shook his head, muttering something. I knew he hadn’t heard what she said, but I bet he could imagine.
I ran to my room real quick, grabbing my small bag but only packing a few things before walking back out. I really was thankful for Lena letting me stay here. I had already adjusted to the bedroom and my few belongings were spread out. I reached Luca and frowned, realizing this meant we would go onto pack property.
“Am I dressed okay?”
He smiled and hooked an arm around me. “You always look beautiful, don’t worry about that.”
I offered a shy smile and followed him down the back stairs of the bakery, my eyes searching the quiet place. I noticed a police car out front and across the street making me smile. Yeah, I had a feeling Lena wasn’t nearly as confused as she thought she was about her boy problems.
Luca’s black expensive Jaguar sat parked, still running behind the building, the misty spring weather making me shiver as he opened the door and ushered me in.
I smiled at him as he buckled me in. Before I could get settled, he rounded to his side of the car. I think the man had a tiny control issue and I was totally and completely okay with that. It was half adorable and half sexy that he cared and worried about me that much. Honestly, it also made me wonder what would happen when he snapped. I feel like it would be pretty sexy. A bit intense, but weren’t they all? No really, all three of them were very intense, and I didn’t think it was just a shifter thing.
“What do you want to listen to?” he asked curiously while handing me his phone that had Spotify pulled up. Instantly, I was finding my account and public playlists that included ‘ballet warmup.’
A small pang went through my chest, realizing that these few days had been the longest I’d gone without dancing in some time. I missed it. I missed the freedom and sensations associated with it.
In my bag at Lena’s apartment, I had a pair of tights, a leotard, warm-up insulated pants, and my soft ballet shoes. I’d brought my pointe shoes as well, but I needed new lamb’s
