his head and down the centre of his spine. As for the rest of him, his arms were bulging with muscles under a light grey skin, speckled with the same fur. He also now possessed the massive head of a bull that matched the rest of him, as he had doubled in size!
I also now understood all the piercings, as even in this form he was covered in them. A thick silver ring hung from his nostrils, along with rings in his ears and even one looked to have been drilled straight through one of the giant bull’s horns. These thick horns stretched out from the sides of his head, and the one that wasn’t pierced was decorated with thick silver cuffs. These were inscribed in demonic symbols that looked fused to the horn. He had the hands of a man but the hooves of a bull. These were thick and black, and currently stomped into the ground creating deep grooves as he charged towards the three brothers. Then, when he was close enough, he butted his head from side to side and his massive bull’s head sent at least two brothers flying, thanks to his gigantic horns.
But in the seconds it took me to watch this happen was when Clay had started his own change, and the moment he did, I was left stunned once more. Because what Matthias had said was true, I was really in the presence of a Geryon.
But then I couldn’t exactly say he was what I expected after reading about him in my parents’ library. For starters, there were as many bodies as I had been expecting and as for heads, well two demonic skulls now sat either side of his shoulders that faced the sides. These also appeared to be alive as they snapped their jaws in sight of the enemy as if they wanted a bite.
Both were horned, and these framed the horns on top of Clay’s head, making it look like two curled X’s either side. Added to this new form was that of a scorpion’s tail that ran down the centre of his back in large black segments, creating that of a new spine. Then, keeping with the scorpion theme, there were the two arms that came from his shoulder blades that were more animal. This was down to the hard black skin and large pincers that came with the moveable claw that snapped against the fixed one beneath. These rose up high above his head and reached out at the sides, ready for the attack.
As for his own arms, these doubled in size, and combined with these were two more arms coming from the back of his ribcage, that were purely demonic and full of claws. His legs also changed, becoming more like the hind legs of a beast and I soon knew why. This happened after he started walking towards Matthias, telling me,
“Stay here, I’ve got this!” Then he began running before dropping to his four arms and charging towards him with his tail and pinchers held high, ready to strike.
I pressed my body back against the stone pillar, knowing that I had to let them both fight without worrying that I would be caught in the crossfire. But I also knew I needed to be ready to call forth my own powers, despite my lack of experience, as making a single ball of energy in a make-believe field wasn’t exactly what I could call pro level yet. But hey, it was all I had, so I tried to call it forth now so I would be ready.
Only for some reason… it never came.
“What the fuck is wrong with me! Come on!” I shouted at myself, now waving my hands in front of me as if this would help in kick starting them or something.
But an angry roar soon had my head snapping up to find the Keepers of Three, who had now been transformed into Hellish versions of their past lives as warriors, rising from where they had been knocked aside by Caspian's other form. The deaf one glanced at one of the many lanterns lighting the temple, before he ripped free one of the flaming discs. Then, with an angry war cry, he spun it through the air like a discus, with a tail of flames following it as the oil inside spun from the surface. This managed to hit Caspian in the chest, making that massive bull go crashing backwards into the stone.
“Caspian!” I shouted,
