Follow me, Lucy.”
I followed him out of the room.
Although his reasoning made sense, I refused to stay locked up here. If I had to, I would break out. And if they tried to experiment on me, I would destroy the entire place. Brick by brick.
Chapter Four
We walked down several hallways, past an amalgamation of rooms and people.
The new room he led me to was nicer looking, but the way the door opened led me to believe that it could be locked, too, if they wanted to keep me contained.
“You can stay in this room. We will have someone with a similar power come to teach you tomorrow. In the meantime, please refrain from using your powers.” He looked at my wrist where the bracelet had been and scowled.
“Thanks,” I said and turned my back on him as I entered the room.
“Three doors down the hallway is the entrance to the dining room. You can find food and drinks there,” suit man said.
“Thanks,” I said, without turning around.
I sat on the bed and put my head in my hands. This was too much. Too crazy. And all because of Cobalt.
Someone knocked on my door, so I stood and tried to look bored. “Come in.”
A man I had never seen before pushed open the door and stood in the doorway. He was muscular, had long silver hair, and wore a trench coat over jeans and a T-shirt that was sculpted to him. He was quite possibly the most beautiful man I had ever seen, surpassing Cobalt easily.
He looked me over and smiled. “You look good.”
“Um, who are you?” I asked, not missing that he had said I looked good.
He rubbed the back of his neck and smiled sheepishly. “Right, you wouldn’t know what I look like since you had the bag on your head.”
Recognition of his voice hit me. “You’re the hero who saved me.”
He dropped his hand and nodded. “I am. Though, I didn’t really save you.”
“You saved me,” I said. “Cobalt wasn’t going to come. Thank you, for saving me.”
“How are you?” He asked.
“Wait, what happened to Transistor? He was there with you, right? Or did I hallucinate that?”
“You know him well?” He asked.
“He kidnapped me about a dozen times while I was dating Cobalt,” I said and shrugged.
“He was there. He was trying to rescue you, or that’s what it looked like. He tried to take you back to his lab, but I thought this would be a better place for you to be taken,” he said.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
He smiled. “Sorry, how rude of me. I’m Austin.”
I arched a brow.
He laughed. “Galactic Gargoyle.”
My eyebrows shot up. Galactic Gargoyle was a being from another planet who came to protect us from his enemies, the Gavrud. He was stronger, faster, and deadlier than Cobalt.
“Oh, wow. Um, it’s nice to meet you,” I said.
He smirked. “You know of me?”
I scoffed. “Everyone knows of you.” I fidgeted with my shirt. “Seriously though, thanks for saving me.”
He shrugged. “I was in the area. I just wish I had been faster and had been able to save you from falling into that goop.”
“What was that foam you sprayed on me?” I asked.
He shook his head. “That was Transistor. He sprayed it on you and it cleaned off most of the goop. If he hadn’t done that, I’m pretty sure it would have killed you.”
I would have to thank him whenever I saw him again. If I saw him again.
“So, Galactic—”
“Austin.”
I smiled. “Austin. Can you show me where the dining hall is? I’m feeling a bit hungry.” Why was I so hungry? I just ate earlier.
He nodded and opened the door. “Follow me.”
I wasn’t the best at flirting, but I could handle my own.
Austin held the door open for me, and I stepped out into the hallway. There were far more people now than when the suit had brought me here. That led me to believe they’d closed the walkways down to get me here without incident.
“Are you my teacher?” I asked as we walked.
He frowned. “What?”
“Suit said they’d be assigning me a teacher so I could learn how to control my powers,” I explained.
“Suit?” he asked with a quirked brow.
“I didn’t get his name.” I shrugged.
He pushed open a door and waited until we stepped inside to say, “No.”
“What are you doing here?” Cobalt snapped from across the room.
I lifted my head, ignoring the dozen or so other heroes, and fixed my gaze on Cobalt. Did he really have the nerve to yell
