“No lie, it was as long as my forearm and about as big around. I’d have felt it in my throat, and not in a good way. I was worried I’d be damaged. For reals.”
“I bet you could have been. And I know most girls aren’t exactly familiar with the concept of lubing up and getting ready, so yeah.”
Ashley nodded. “Are you implying I don’t do anal because I’m a girl?”
This time, Bailey did choke on his coffee.
“Just to be clear, I do. You’re really so innocent. Do you even know about the can’t get pregnant if it’s anal method of contraception?”
“What?”
“What?” Ashley asked. She blinked sweetly, like she’d not just dropped a bomb on him.
“That’s a thing?”
Ashley shrugged. “Two sure ways to prevent pregnancy, Bails. Don’t have sex or do it in the back door.”
“I cannot believe this is an actual thing and I don’t know about it.”
“Why? You’ve been with girls before. Hasn’t it been a thing?”
“Uh, no. And it’s been a while.”
“You mean you’ve never done anal with a girl?”
The server chose that moment to bring over their tray of pancakes. She bit her lip to keep from laughing, and Bailey wanted to crawl under the table. He stared out the window instead, and noticed the patrol car driving slowly past the restaurant.
They’d definitely increased their presence in the area, and it gave Bailey a huge sense of relief to know the local cops were taking the threat seriously.
“Gotta pee. Be right back. Don’t steal my bacon.” Ashley wiggled out of the booth and went to the other side of the restaurant where the bathrooms were located.
Bailey shook his head as he watched her go. He honestly never knew what was going to come out of her mouth next.
He’d cut up his pancakes and drowned them in syrup when a shadow near the table had him looking up with a smile. But it wasn’t Ashley coming back.
Instead, Randy stood beside the table in full cop uniform, complete with belt and handcuffs and gun. And he was glaring full-force at Bailey.
Randy breathed in, and Bailey could have sworn he heard a low growl.
Bailey frowned. “Randy? You okay?”
“I thought you said you weren’t interested in anything right now.”
Bailey’s frown deepened. “What?”
“Logan,” Randy said. He leaned over the table and put his hands down on it. It put him inches away from Bailey’s face. “You put out for him, huh? Shouldn’t surprise me after the way you were panting after him. You might as well have dropped your pants and bent over for him in front of all of us.”
Bailey scooted closer to the window to put some distance between them. “Who I’m with is none of your business, Randy.” Of course, that didn’t explain how the hell Randy knew he’d slept with Logan in the first place.
Randy leaned closer, crowding Bailey farther into the booth, and breathed in again. “He was at the crime scene earlier. You heard there was another attack, right? Your boyfriend was there. It was a guy this time. Could have been you, Bails. Hell, the way you’re slutting around, it might as well have been.”
“Enough.” Randy’s partner appeared at his side and pulled Randy back. “Shut up.”
Randy scoffed. “What, Norm? Bailey’s putting out for guys he’s just met when there’s a rapist on the loose. He needs to watch out.”
Norman put himself between Randy and the table as Ashley made her way across the restaurant.
Randy stormed off, slamming open the front door and heading back to the patrol car parked outside.
“Sorry about that,” Norman said. “I didn’t realize he’d come over here. I was waiting for a hostess.”
“It’s not your fault,” Bailey said.
“I’ll talk to him. Enjoy the rest of your breakfast.”
Norman followed Randy out to the car. Ashley stared furiously at it as they drove away. “What the fuck was that?”
Bailey shook his head. “Randy asked me out the other day, and I told him to ask me after all this. I guess he found out about me and Logan somehow and was pissed.”
“I will punch him in the nads. And how the flying fuck did he find out?”
Bailey sighed and pushed around his pancakes before looking up and meeting her gaze. “He saw Logan this morning. There was another attack.”
“Oh my God. Do we know who?”
“No. Randy said it was a guy, though.”
“Oh shit,” Ashley said. “Well, I’ve now lost my appetite.”
“Same.”
“Let’s get out of here.”
They flagged down their server and paid the bill before leaving the restaurant. Bailey looped his arm
