enjoy my orgasm, then leave anyway.
It was kind of nice in a way - leaving him in bed, grabbing at the pillows, trying to pout and make me feel guilty as I got dressed to leave.
I realized that I was no longer able to do the one foot hop around to put on my socks and shoes. It was a hopeless battle where the outcome was the unborn baby winning.
That meant I had to sit on the edge of the bed and twist my foot and reach at a strange angle.
It also didn’t help that the second I sat on the bed again, Silas pounced on me.
Massaging my shoulders. Kissing my neck. Digging his thumbs into my back, running them down so…
“Stop,” I told him when I jumped up.
I hurried out of the room as he laughed at me.
I hated that his touch did what it did to me.
He left me shivering for a good hour after that.
Luckily the restaurant was busy enough that I forgot all about Silas, his strong hands and the way his body felt against mine.
Yeah, right.
Edith acted normal, which I wasn’t sure whether it was a good thing or not.
There was no horse talk. And there was no sight of Thomas either.
Ma was in a good mood, wearing her necklace from Michael with pride.
Once the morning rush ended, both Ma and Edith made me eat something, then I was able to sneak out of there.
When I got back to the inn, I opened the door to the familiar sound of guitars being played.
One good. One not so good.
That meant Buddy was having a lesson again.
I crept through the room and when Buddy saw me, he stopped playing.
“Mila,” he said. “Look at you.”
“Don’t say it, Buddy,” Silas warned.
“How can I not say it? She’s glowing. She’s got that motherly look to her.”
“You mean I look huge already?” I asked.
“No,” Buddy said. “You look perfect. Just perfect.”
“Hey,” Silas said to Buddy. “Are you trying to play guitar to impress Mila?”
“Oh, no,” Buddy said. “No offense to Mila, but the woman I’m going to impress has had my heart for most of my life.”
“That’s really why you’re doing this?” I asked.
“Sure thing,” Buddy said. “Life is far too short to sit back and think too much. That’s all I’ve done. Too much thinking. That led to too much drinking. I lost years. So many years.”
“So now you’re going to show up with a guitar and…?”
“Play a song and see what happens,” Buddy said.
“What if she… you know…”
“What?” Buddy asked. He smiled. “Tells me I’m insane? Calls the cops? Hits me with a baseball bat? Believe me, I’ve thought about it all. If she says I’m insane, I’ll tell her I’m crazy for her.”
I laughed. “Sorry…”
“If she calls the cops, I know most of the cops. They know who I am. They’ll give me a ride home. If she swings a bat, then I’ll hold up my guitar to protect myself.”
“Wow, you really have thought it out.”
“I’ve got nothing to lose,” Buddy said. “I’ve missed so much of life without her.”
“And now you’re missing your lesson,” Silas said. “Words won’t get you far unless you play a song. Your transitions are garbage still. And you need to get those calluses formed.”
“Silas, easy,” I said.
“No, it’s good,” Buddy said. “I told him not to be nice to me. I don’t want to mess this up.”
Silas looked at me and winked.
“Well, I’ll let you two do your thing. I’m going to go visit Olivia. I heard she’s home with Lucy today. That’s why I got the call to help at the restaurant this morning.”
As I started to turn, Silas whistled.
“What?” I asked.
He stood up and walked toward me. “You don’t get to leave with my child without a goodbye kiss.”
“Damn, that’s romantic,” Buddy said. “I need to take some notes.”
“Buddy, if you get a woman pregnant at your age, you’ll be headline news,” I said.
“Are you calling me old?” Buddy asked. “I don’t feel a day over seventy.”
“Come here, darling,” Silas said as he touched my hips. “Quit flirting with Buddy. You’re going to give him a heart attack.”
“Oh, yeah,” I whispered. “Just what every man wants. A pregnant woman.”
“That’s what I want,” Silas whispered.
He brushed his lips to mine and touched my stomach.
There was nothing quite like that feeling.
Silas backed away and winked again.
Then he turned and clapped his hands. “Okay, Buddy, we’ve got to make up for lost time here. You’re buzzing the D string because you’re not curling
