back to the bed and sat up, throwing the covers over herself. “There.” She patted the bed. “I’m ready.”
I smiled as I walked to the bed and began to show her what was for breakfast.
Listening to her groan over the sight of bacon and fresh waffles…
Better yet… after she took that first syrupy bite of the waffles and I stole a sweet-morning-breath laced kiss… that did it for me all over again.
Each day Mila found some subtle way to make me fall in love with her. Not again, but in a new way.
“Can I tell you something?” Mila asked.
“Sure,” I said.
“First off, stop staring at me like that. Like you’re getting horny watching me eat.”
“Maybe I am,” I said.
“I don’t know how that makes me feel. Anyway. I’ve never had breakfast in bed before.”
“What?”
“Not like this. Not what you just did.”
“Wow. You must feel really lucky to have me around then.”
Mila laughed. “So lucky, Silas.”
Mila stuffed a huge bite of waffles into her mouth.
She scrunched up her nose and loudly chomped.
I moved in on her and kissed her again, this time my tongue flickering against her syrup-stained lips.
She gasped and started to cough.
Oh, fuck…
She pushed me away and coughed again, her face red as she started to laugh.
“Are you trying to kill me?” she yelled.
I stood up. “I guess that’s what a kiss from me does.”
She reached for her coffee and took a sip.
“It wasn’t your kiss. It was the waffle. Don’t go getting full of yourself, Silas.”
“You’re so fucking beautiful, darling.”
“Stop.”
“No. Just watching you right now.”
“Watching me stuff my face with food. I feel like a beached whale over here.”
“I don’t care what you feel, Mila.”
“That’s real nice to say to a pregnant woman.”
“Well, maybe you should try to see what I see.”
“Okay. Fine. What exactly do you see then?”
She was so irritated at me by then. I loved it.
“I see my beautiful Mila in bed, enjoying a hot breakfast. Knowing you’re wearing those really short shorts, your favorite to sleep in. I know you’re not wearing panties either. I keep thinking about your legs… the shorts…” I grinned. “And then your belly pushing against the covers. Your breasts…”
“Okay,” Mila said. “You’re living every man’s dream. You woke up and your woman’s boobs are a cup size bigger.”
I laughed. “It’s so much more than that. Thank you, darling.”
“You’re thanking me? For what?”
I leaned down and kissed her forehead. “For being pregnant, beautiful, and moody.”
“In that case, you’re welcome.”
Mila looked up at me. I kissed her lips again.
“I’m going to go over to the house and see what’s going on. You enjoy your breakfast.”
“I will. I’m not sure what I’m doing yet today. I might go to the ranch. Try to find some calmness in everything going on.”
“Love you, darling.”
“Love you too, Silas. Thank you for breakfast in bed.”
“You can repay me tomorrow morning.”
“Oh? I’m going to wake up before you and drive to the restaurant? Really?”
I grinned. “That’s not the kind of breakfast I want in bed.”
Mila gasped. Her cheeks turned red.
Then she smiled.
The house didn’t look all that much different.
I knew that just meant Tyler and his crew were working on the stuff nobody thought about or saw. All the fun stuff like appliances and cabinet handles would come later. Right now it was about updating the electric and plumbing and ensuring the house would be exactly what Mila and I wanted and needed.
The front yard was torn up. All the overgrowth cut and stacked into a nice, big pile.
I hadn’t realized how big the front yard was.
“You’re going to have landscaping decisions to make.”
I turned my head and saw Tyler getting out of his truck, wiping his hands from the last bite of a breakfast sandwich.
He reached back into the truck for his coffee before shutting the door.
“This yard is damn big,” I said.
“Just a suggestion,” he said. “You and my sister should plant a few trees. Once the little guy is here. Pick a spot and then take pictures each year.”
“That’s a great idea,” I said. “I won’t do that in the front here though. I want the house to be seen. But I think I need to get something built here. Levels or something.”
“You’re really hanging up the rock star hat, huh?” Tyler asked. “You’re used to waking up in hotels and motels. Now you’re thinking about what flowers you’re going to plant each year.”
“Is that a bad thing?” I asked.
Tyler patted my back. “Not at all, Silas. Not at all.”
We walked side by side
