his weird head, the more I wanted to look away.
“Magic, of course. Same reason I’m currently on the side of the living. Master pulled my soul from the deadside, recognizing my inquisitive nature and scientific mind, and wanted me to continue my experiments. Not that I can say much more to you on that, at least not until you swear fealty. I wanted to meet you though, and I knew as soon as you were awake, they’d sweep you away from me. Your magic is so unique, unlike anything else I’ve seen. I was wondering if I could persuade you to give me a demonstration?”
I nodded and smiled. If this asshole wanted to see my magic, I’d be more than happy to show him. I struggled against my bindings and felt the pain sear through my body like I’d touched a live wire.
“I’m afraid as much as you might want me to help you, I’m physically incapable of taking your bindings off. Any demonstration you can give me with the bindings on would be appreciated though.” The walking, talking corpse stumbled toward me as he spoke.
I pulled on my power, and it felt like jagged shards of glass being pushed through my veins, making me scream my head off. The magic did flow though, and the wind that whipped around the room was vicious. I heard a variety of things clattering about as they fell to the floor and rolled with the wind.
When I was able to open my eyes, I saw a skeleton guy still standing there, but this time, he was holding his desiccated arms over his head with something in his hands. I released the hold I had on my power, and immediately, the pain eased. The man quickly sealed up the container, as though the air itself was what he’d been trying to sample.
I was so confused.
Without saying a word, he walked over to one of the tables and pressed a button. I heard a buzz sound from somewhere. A second man came into the room a few moments later.
“Master will be pleased that she is awake. Does she have any comprehension issues?” It was the man from before.
“No, she seems to understand everything as normal. Her powers are intact as well, so you’ll have to leave some of the binders on her at all times unless you want her to bring the roof down around us.”
“Understood. I’ll have someone come in and prepare her to meet the Master.”
“Are you going to meet with him? Can I come with you?” Skeletor asked, sounding like a child that wanted to visit Santa.
“If you must.”
The two of them walked out, and I was left alone in the dark once again. It wasn’t for long though. A few minutes later, three beings came into the room. As they came toward me, I realized they were women, but they were decaying and mostly dead, just like Skeletor.
The magical red glowing rope that had kept me bound to the table and made using my powers feel like I was burning from the inside out was added to my wrists and ankles, like bracelets, before being removed from my arms and chest. For the first time since I’d woken up alone, I took a deep breath. They backed up, and I pushed into a sitting position on the hospital bed I’d been strapped to. At least I could move now, and I could run when the opportunity presented itself. I knew it would, it was just a matter of being patient.
When I dropped to my feet and started to move away from the bed, they followed me. I backed away from them, feeling unsteady on my feet, but they grabbed me by the wrists. As much as I wanted to fight them tooth and nail, I also knew it was better to conserve my energy for my escape attempt, and there was no way I could escape past these three without having access to my magic.
I was bustled around and forced into a shower, which I didn’t really mind all that much, except for the freezing cold water. When I got out, they dressed me like a doll in an evening gown of all things. I’d seen plenty of teenagers getting ready for proms or formals and also the aftermath of said proms and formals. Evening gowns were not an entirely foreign concept to me.
The dress was silver with black leaves and flowers embroidered all over the sides, accentuating my feminine curves.
