before he came back.
Both he and Josh received texts at the same time from Gaige. That probably wasn't good news. Both men gazed quickly at each other then grabbed their phones. Reading the text his heartbeat increased, his mouth became dry and he felt lightheaded. This was the worst news they could have received.

"Oh dear. Now you've got me scared out of my wits, Bridget."
"I know mom and I'm so sorry. But, Sophie insists that we fly down there so we are safe and they're sending a plane. Normally I would have flat out refused, but if anything happened to Aidyn, it would just kill me. Also, if anything happened to you, I would not be able to live with the guilt of it, so I hope you'll do me this favor and come along willingly. Since I'm not sure how long we'll be there, just pack the clothes you have here, we can buy more if need be. If you could pack a bag for Aidyn, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to run down to the range and grab my second range bag and my laptop. That way I can contact all of my clients and cancel classes as long as I need to."
"Honey, maybe you should wait until they get here."
"It's broad daylight right now and I'll only be gone for a few minutes. My range bag is packed, my laptop is right next to it on the desk. In and out."
Her mom was still a nice-looking woman. Bridget got her green eyes from her. She also got her nose and her smile from her. She inherited her short stature from her mom, too. Both of them were only 5' tall and she'd always wished she were taller. She's also always hated her red hair. Ginger. Copper. Red. Oh, how she'd hated those nicknames in school. The freckles on her face were a torment also. Thankfully, they'd faded some as she'd gotten older.
She stood from the table as her mom did. Stepping into her mom's outstretched arms she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around her mom's waist. Mom hugs were the best hugs ever.
Stepping back, she smiled at her mom. "I'll be back in just a few minutes. You and Aidyn get packed and I'll pack as soon as I get back."
"Okay."
The worry in her mom's eyes felt like a hot poker in her stomach. She hated worrying her or even being the cause of them being in danger. But for the life of her, she had no idea why she was on anyone's radar anyway. She'd never seen the woman in the airport before and hadn't seen her since she'd landed, and Cobra had brought her home. It was all so weird. But, she also couldn't stop thinking it had something to do with Yvette's friend who had gone missing. And then Sophie had told her that Skye's friend and Megan's friend had also gone missing. So, someone was targeting women who knew women whose husbands worked for Gaige. But, why them and not the women in GHOST? Not that she wanted them in danger, but why peripheral women?
Shaking the morose thoughts from her head she walked to the garage door and looked back at her mom.
"Make sure the alarm is set when I leave."
"I will."
Nodding at her mom, she stepped into the garage and jumped in her vehicle. Tapping the garage door opener, she waited until it was high enough to pass under, then pulled out of the garage. Stopping once she'd cleared the door, she tapped the button again and waited for the door to close all the way. Easing out of the driveway and onto Mile Road, she thought she wanted to make sure she contacted those clients coming to the range this afternoon first. Then she'd start contacting tomorrow's clients. Then, she'd take it a day at a time, always trying to give her clients at least 24 hours’ notice. All the money she was losing by doing this was certainly going to put a dent in her finances, but she'd make do. Luckily the range was paid for.
Turning off Mile Road and onto the County PP that led to the gun range, she scanned the area and saw nothing out of the ordinary. There were only a few farms on this road and the usual traffic with the occasional tractor. Once in a while there was a four-wheeler that the farm kids played around with after chores were done.
