me. I’m usually better at controlling it, and if I can’t I remove myself from the area. But I can’t do that here.”
The last of Noah’s anger seemed to disappear if not his sadness or fear. He still thought she was going to hurt Liam and Zoe honestly couldn’t blame him.
“To be fair, you’re doing pretty fucking amazing. You almost died from a wolf bite and you’re adjusting to the new senses with a lot more calm than I anticipated from you.” Noah shook his head and stood. “Laura will be here soon. I think you’ll like her.”
Both of them froze when the sound of cars roaring up to the house filtered in. Normally it wouldn’t be so loud, but Zoe heard it as if she were standing right there. Car doors opening and slamming shut made her jump.
Then shouts.
It was so familiar she was moving before she could even think twice.
Blood was everywhere.
Zoe slipped into that quiet place in her head as she held the front door open for the people she didn’t know. Three patients this time. Zoe went to the one that looked the worst, assessing the situations, barking out orders as she ticked through each problem and solution.
Gloves were shoved into her hands and she snapped them on, working on the man to stop the bleeding. Cutting off his clothes helped her see the bite in his torso that looked like a bear had gnawed on him.
It was messy and would be almost impossible to put him back together.
Zoe had one of them put pressure on the bleeding while she moved onto the woman. She had to assess the most likely to survive and then figure out what she was going to do since she was the only one there.
Normally she worked with an entire team for each patient. This was going to cause casualties.
The woman was much more likely to survive even if her coloring was terrible. Zoe got an IV set up and then gave instructions on how to treat her arm before moving on to the third person.
Another woman, and she froze when she saw the bite on her neck slowly stitching itself back together.
Zoe instructed them to clean her up before going back to the man that was probably going to die. He didn’t have any healing that she could see as she worked to keep him alive. It was going to be a lot of stitches, and it looked like chunks of his body was missing, but none of his organs seemed to be damaged.
A lot of surface damage, but he’d come out much better than some of the motorcycle victims she’d seen.
“I got this,” a female voice snapped, pushing her aside. “He’s going to need minor surgery.”
Zoe recognized the tone of a seasoned doctor and moved out of the way, but she didn’t leave. “I can assist.”
The woman studied Zoe for a long moment, and then nodded. “With two of us, we might just be able to save all three of them.”
Zoe gritted her teeth and went to work, trying not to think of Chris who was still unconscious despite being completely healed.
But for the first time since she woke up, Zoe felt in control.

Liam
He watched Zoe work with a strange sense of awe. Her entire demeanor changed if not the tone of her voice. It still had the crack of a whip and no room for argument or disobedience. Laura had tried to get rid of her, but Zoe had stayed.
The two worked together like they’d been doing it all their lives.
Liam and Noah followed their orders, fetching whatever they needed. The two of them were used to being bossed around and they’d perfected the art of not getting in the way.
Before Kai, they’d made themselves scarce and back then being submissive hadn’t been a good thing, not when those more dominant abused their power at every opportunity.
As for Zoe, he could see that she may have an attitude problem, but she didn’t abuse the power her knowledge and skill gave her. She used it to fix problems, and to save lives. Somehow, she and Laura managed to save the man who would have had no chance of survival a few weeks ago.
Their pack had grown in time to save people. It was such a strange concept that the Blue Mountain Pack was now a sanctuary to some degree.
He looked up and Noah gave him a nod, clearly on the same page as they watched the two females finish
