in his office chair and propped his feet up on the desk.
“No, and I know he’s aware that I know. So why doesn’t he just come clean?” I threw my hands up in the air.
“Only two reasons I can think of. Either he’s scared you will leave or he has other plans.”
“Jared, I don’t want any of this. To hell with everyone else. I just want to live a normal life and be happy for a change. Is that too much to ask for?” I was on the verge of tears and feeling sorry for myself.
“I know you do. That’s why we allowed regular people, or humans, to come in here. Not so we can recruit, but the more humans you are around the less likely they would find you.” He was trying to explain and I held up my hand to stop him.
“Not that I’m not thankful, but I really can’t deal with anything else right now. At the moment, I have a boyfriend that is pissed because I dyed my hair back to blonde and he thinks it has something to do with my ex. Then there’s you and other creepy men coming around.” I laid my head back and jerked back up when Jared shot up out of his chair.
“What creepy men?”
“Well, just one name: Simon. Why do you ask?” Jared’s face went white when I said the name.
“Sloane, listen to me. Stay away from Simon.” Jared was actually scared.
“Who is...?” There was a knock at the door.
“Yeah, I’m in a meeting.” Jared yelled, and the door was forced open. Little splinters fell off the door casing. It was Viktor.
“Well, I’d hate to interrupt.” Viktor was being an ass.
“I guess that’s my cue.” I got up and walked out to the bar to grab my things with Viktor hot on my trail.
“What is your problem?” Viktor said through gritted teeth as he snatched my arm. I stared down at his hand on my arm. “You have been acting weird all day and now you are purposely trying to piss me off by using Jared. Why don’t you grow up and say what’s on your mind.” Yeah, he was mad and he pissed me off in the process.
“Do you really want to know what my deal is, Mr. Number-Two-In-Charge? I will tell you.” I yanked my arm back and rounded my shoulders. Now Jared and everyone else were watching. “The fact that you never told me still makes it a lie and I gave you the opportunity to tell me, but you failed! You failed to realize that I don’t need you or anyone else. I’ve done fine all by myself. I’ve grown accustomed to being alone, and to be honest, that’s how I like it!” There—the big finish. I turned to walk away, but Shay and Declan stood there with their arms crossed. “Don’t look at me like that. You need to get ready for work,” I told Shay, ignoring Declan.
“Are you the boss now?” Shay asked, laughing.
“Yeah, actually, I am. Since we are all being honest at the moment, let’s get it all out.” Here it was. The breakdown that had been coming for years now. “I’m the owner of this place. You are all “my” employees and I know about each and every one of you.” I pointed as I turned around. Jared tried to get me to stop. “No! You all need to know.” I turned to look at Shay, who looked astonished by my words. “I’m a witch.” I waited for Shay’s reaction, but nothing came.
“You own this place?” Shay stepped closer to me.
“Did you hear what I said Shay? I’m a witch!” I started hyperventilating. “My boyfriend is a fallen angel that is second in command for everything bad and my ex is a damn angel. Well, not a damned angel but a good angel.” I paused to look around at Mindy, Dale and Jared. “And Jared is an Imp and they are a succubus and an incubus. Why aren’t you freaking out like me right now?”
“I think I need a drink.” Shay went behind the bar and began pouring her a shot one after another. I walked to the bar to stand in front of her. “Wow a witch, and the rest of you are something, too?” She was breathing hard and fast.
At this point, I glanced around at everyone who eyed me as if I was a mutant. I was having a moment and the supernatural clan just bore witness.
