couple?”
“She just moved to Atlanta and she’s ready to get back on the dating scene since her divorce is finalized. Kingston is in Atlanta and he isn’t seeing anyone. She’s hot. He’s hot. She’s kind. He’s kind. She works all the time. He works nonstop. They are pretty much the same person,” Chloe explained, her tipsy logic not really making a lot of sense.
“But Corrine and Kingston?” I reiterated Maria’s question.
Corrine and Kingston were nothing alike and I was pretty sure she wasn’t his type. And from what I knew of Corrine, I couldn’t see Kingston being her type either. Corrine, like her sister, was beautiful, but she was always so serious and rigid. She didn’t like us; she tolerated us. Kingston, on the other hand, was serious about his business, but overall, he was lighthearted and fun. And he didn’t just like us; he was one of us.
“Somebody’s jealous that someone is trying to move in on her turf,” Chloe giggled.
I felt my face starting to heat. I picked up the pillow that had hit Latisha and tossed it at Chloe. “That’s some bullshit and you know it! I said the same thing that Maria said,” I argued.
“Yeah, but I don’t have a sexual history with Kingston,” Maria commented.
“Sexual history?! We kissed once and that happened like five minutes ago!” I pointed at her. “If I had another pillow, I would throw it at you.”
“Does Kingston know you’re trying to set him up?” Tisha asked, circling back to the main point.
“No. But you know how Kingston is. He doesn’t like to be set up,” Chloe reasoned. “This is more of an introduction for him to be a tour guide of sorts. And if something romantic happens…”
I wanted to say so much, but I knew they were going to give me shit so I rephrased my question.
I leaned forward, cocking my head to the side. “Does Corrine know you’re trying to set her up?”
“Kind of. I told her there was someone at the wedding I wanted to introduce her to, but I didn’t say who. When she gets here, I’ll casually mention that she’s in Atlanta and ask Kingston if he knows the area where she lives. If she would’ve flown out today, she could’ve had time to get to know Kingston better tonight. Tomorrow at brunch, they could’ve sat next to one another and then during the free time, they could’ve spent some alone time together. And because weddings make everything seem romantic, on Saturday they would watch me and Dom’s love story and realize that this could be the start of their own. And then on Sunday, they would announce to the group that they’re a couple.”
“Wow,” I breathed. “You really have this whole thing planned out.”
Tisha shook her head. “I know you’re a little drunk now, but were you drunk when you made this plan, too?”
I burst out laughing.
“You were, weren’t you?” Tisha continued with a nod. “Because that tracks.”
Unfortunately, Chloe did not think it was as funny as we did.
She tossed her empty water bottle our way. “What is that supposed to mean?” she snapped.
“I’m sorry to laugh,” I said, trying to pacify her and the situation. “It’s a really sweet gesture.”
Tisha tossed the water bottle at me before adding, “But Chloe, sweet Chloe, you are trying to get two people who don’t know anything about this hookup to fall in love in a weekend.” She shook her head. “I don’t see that working.”
“Weddings are magical. Lots of unexpected hookups happen,” Chloe stated with a whimsical tone.
“This is true,” Maria agreed. “Look at Simone and Kingston.”
“You guys are assholes,” I uttered, searching feebly for something to throw at them that was within my reach.
“I’m serious, this has to work,” Chloe insisted. “I just want this weekend to be good for everybody.”
“It will be,” I assured her. “Your focus should be on you and Dom finally making it down the aisle. We’ve known this day was coming for a decade! So, we’re all excited and happy. You don’t have to worry about this being a good time for us. It already is such a good time and it’s only day one.”
She smiled and the other women in the room chimed in with their agreement.
“So don’t you worry your pretty little head about anything,” Tisha assured her.
“You can’t hook Kingston up with somebody who doesn’t smile,” Maria pointed out.
“Corrine smiles,” Chloe laughed.
I shook my head. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen her smile except in pictures.”
Chloe rolled her
