guy, you don’t go after him yourself.”
“Yeah, if she’s dating him. I don’t think Victoria was dating him. I don’t think she really dates at all, right? I do not believe that bitch is monogamous.”
“I don’t know her well enough to know if she’s monogamous.”
“Well, it seems like you guys were getting on that night. You did go to the club with her.”
“She told me we were going to an off-Broadway show that she got free tickets for.” I rolled my eyes. “I thought it was going to be this cool little indie play. And it was a club!”
“What?” He shook his head. “Did you end up going to the play or—”
“No. She took us to a club. She’d just been lying. I think … I don’t even know why. We’ve never hung out before, and I don’t think we’re going to hang out again.”
“Oh, shit. Drama up in here,” Kevin said. “Spill the tea, girl. Spill the tea. I want to know all the deets.”
“All what deets? I just told you what happened.”
“But what happened when you got back to the apartment? Was she with that guy? Was she banging him in your bedroom? Oh my gosh. Wouldn’t that be amazing? What if she asked you to have a threesome? Would you do it? Bitch, I know you’re from England, and I know you’re a prude. But if a hottie like him and a hottie like her wants to have a threesome with you, you say yes.”
“She’s a bitch, Kevin. I would never have a threesome with her.”
“Girl, you’re not dating her. You’re—”
“I don’t swing that way, Kevin. I’m not interested in having a threesome with anyone.”
He laughed. “I know. You Brits are all so proper.”
“Honey, I don’t know if you’ve been watching too much Downton Abbey or what, but that is a myth. Us Brits are as kinky as the rest of the world. You do know that the author of 50 Shades of Grey was British, right?”
“Girlfriend, no!” His jaw dropped. “I thought she was from Alabama.”
“You what?” I started laughing. “Alabama?”
“Girl, I don’t know …” He groaned as he looked at his vintage Rolex. “Oh, shit.”
“What?”
“Girl, we better get to work. This photoshoot isn’t going to style itself.”
“Um, you’re the styler. I’m the photographer.”
“Bitch, you’re my assistant too,” he pointed out. Which was true. When I’d taken the job, it had been photographer/assistant. Though I hadn’t realized that I’d have quite so many assistant duties.
“Okay. What do you want me to do?”
“You see that bucket of sand over there?”
“Yeah,” I groaned.
“I’m going to need you to make some sandcastles right over there. And put some shells in the sand, make it look pretty.”
“Okay.” I walked over to the sand. This sucked. I mean, I knew I had been really excited for this job, but this was not what I’d expected to be doing. I’d much rather be on the stage reciting Shakespeare or Arthur Miller.
“Come on, Viola. Or Juliet. Whoever you want to be today. I know this isn’t your dream job, but this is what pays our bills right now. So we got to get it done.”
“I know, Kevin.” I grinned at him. “Do you mind if I just go and grab a bottle of water and I’ll be right back?”
“Sure. Grab me one too.”
“Okay.”
I walked down the hallway to the kitchen and pulled out my phone, opened the WhatsApp messages, and sent Henrietta a quick text message. “Oh my gosh, Hen, this job really sucks. I’m so fed up of it. I really, really, really need something to change in my life. Anyway, hope you and Charlie are doing well. Chat soon. Love you. Bye.”
I put the phone back in my pocket, grabbed two bottles of water, and headed back to the main studio. If I was going to be here all night, I might as well make the best sandcastle ever. But I knew when I got back to the apartment, I was going to have to have a serious talk with Victoria. I’d tried to the other night, but she’d evaded me. I wasn’t going to let that happen again.
We really needed to set up some ground rules because this was really not working out for me. Her mess and her nightly hookups were frankly getting on my last nerves.
Chapter 5
Ethan
“So today’s your first day, right?” Harry sounded awfully pleased. I could picture the smug look on my brother’s face.
“You know today’s my first day.” I kept my voice low on the
