and pulled me into him.
“That doesn’t mean I want to get married right now,” I warned him.
His smile never wavered. “Of course.”
I tilted my head back until he met my eyes. “I’m serious.”
“I know.” He kissed the top of my head, and I had a feeling he wasn’t really listening.
“Jason––”
“You don’t want to get married right now. I know, but that just means that it’s a possibility for the future, and I’m happy about that.” He waited for my reaction, and I finally nodded.
“Fine. Just don’t get any crazy ideas.”
“Thank you, guys, so much.” Brandon came into the kitchen wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
“No problem, Dad. I got you the honeymoon suite at The Grand.”
“That’s so nice! Thank you, Jason.” Sydney came around and gave him a hug before wrapping her arm around me. “And thank you again for being here. It really meant a lot to me.”
I squeezed her back. “I’m grateful you let me be a part of it.”
“We’ll see you guys tomorrow.” They both gave the twins kisses before grabbing their bags.
“Bye, Daddy! Bye, Mommy!” Finn called and Milo echoed.
They both froze in the doorway, and Sydney’s hand went to her heart. “Bye, boys. I love you both so much.”
Brandon kissed his wife’s temple, and they turned as the boys went back to munching on grapes.
“That was the sweetest moment ever,” I whispered.
Jason nodded. “One day we’ll hear that too.”
I sucked in a breath and faced him. “Promise?”
“I promise.” He bent down and kissed me briefly.
I never let myself think about having children. Not after how much it hurt to lose Alexander, but this time we would have each other. We could survive anything together, but right now, I just wanted to enjoy being with Jason again.

Jason
We’d been back together officially for two weeks, but it felt like years. It was so easy to fall back into step with one another. The shock of finding Taylor again was beginning to wear off, and I was gradually accepting that life could actually be this good, and that I could be this happy.
She had been working so hard for the past week on the mural in the arena, sometimes staying until late into the night, so I decided to plan a special dinner. I asked Chloe to make sure she left at a normal time and had been waiting for her to get off the elevator at our condo complex for over ten minutes.
Finally, the faint ding sounded and the doors opened. Taylor stepped out in loose jeans and an oversized t-shirt that was covered in paint splotches.
“Hey.” She smiled and stepped into my outstretched arms. “Are you heading out?”
“We are.”
She looked down at her clothes. “I can’t go anywhere right now.”
“We’re not really going out.” I took her purse and set it in my apartment before locking up and taking her hand.
“Where are we going?” she asked as we got back in the elevator. I pressed the top button and her brows bunched together. “What’s going on?”
“You’ll see.” The doors opened, and I led her to the stairwell that led up to the roof. I already spoke to the building manager and cleared our little outing. I set up a blanket with a basket of food and a small speaker playing music quietly in the background.
“What’s all of this?” she asked while walking toward my surprise.
“It’s our first date, well, as close as I could get.”
I watched as recognition washed over her and her mouth gaped a bit. “Turkey sandwiches, barbeque chips, and Sprite?”
I nodded as she laughed. “The music even matches.”
I gestured for her to sit and laid out our fancy dinner. “It was the best I could do at sixteen.”
“It was perfect,” she whispered. “Just like it is now.”
I leaned over and kissed her before opening a can and handing it to her. “I always told myself one day I would give you more. The perfect date, then the perfect life. I knew you deserved so much better, and I wanted to provide that for you.”
Her lips curved into a smile. “I only ever wanted you.”
“Well, I’m finally in a position to give you both.”
I took a bite of my sandwich and watched her sip her drink. She was still the girl I fell in love with back then, but older and wiser and so much more beautiful. I was in awe of the woman she became, and even more shocked that that woman could want a broken, flawed man like me.
“I love you so much, Taylor. I never stopped, but being with you again is more than I thought I deserved.”
She tilted her head and her eyes glistened. “I love you, Jason. I always have, and I always will. You’re my person, for better or for worse.”
Her grace and forgiveness were something I would never stop trying to be worthy of. I decided in that moment that I would spend the rest of our lives making sure she knew how grateful I was for her and how much I loved her.
“For richer or poorer?” I asked.
She beamed. “In sickness and in health.”
“To love and to cherish,” I finished.
Her eyes sparkled. “Did we just get married?”
“I think it takes a few more steps than just saying those words.”
She looked away and sighed. “We should fix that.”
I watched her, waiting for her to look at me. “Did you just propose?”
She shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Huh.” I reached for her hand. “I accept.”
Her eyes widened in a flash before she flung herself into my arms and kissed me.
