something from me … so that you know you’re not just a passing fad for me. I just need time to work through a few things. It’s kind of me asking if you can wait for me I guess.”
Shifting my gaze from the serious look in his eyes, I glanced toward the sparkling jewel on my finger and the unusual choice of finger he’d placed it upon. It felt a perfect fit and felt exactly right for the relationship we had.
When he say I had no words he carried on.
“Here, look at this,” he said, slipping it off again. “I guessed you might feel something on this finger a little cumbersome at times, so I picked this out this piece because it also turns into a bracelet.”
I looked at the designer name on the box, Gumuchian, and saw all the little bands that made up the ring. Jamie manipulated the ring’s moving parts and made a bracelet from it.
“See?” he asked, smiling back at me as he held the bracelet over the table.
“Can you put it back? I prefer the ring, and as long as you’re serious, I’d be glad to wear it all the time,” I replied. A wide smile spread over his face and he slid the ring back on my finger.
“I’m so happy you like it, Daisy. It’s my intention to show you that, despite my reputation and the lifestyle I’ve led in the past, I’m very serious about keeping you.”
Chapter 19
Stirring awake the following morning, I opened my eyes and saw Jamie watching me. I smiled and rolled away from him.
“That’s a creepy way to wake up,” I mumbled, but the butterflies in my stomach had already taken flight at the sight of him lying watching me.
“What’s creepy about the man who loves you admiring your gorgeous face while you sleep?”
“Whatever,” I muttered, glad he couldn’t see the grin he’d put on my face.
“Don’t,” he admonished and tugged on my shoulder to put me flat on my back. Rising up on his elbow, he swept my hair away from my face with his fingers and gave me a serious stare. “This trip has been too short,” he admitted. “What am I to do without you tomorrow night?” he asked.
“Oh, I imagine you’ll think of something,” I said, light-heartedly, to stop myself from bawling. Now that I was there, I hadn’t wanted to leave him, either.
“Remind me, what time is your flight?” he asked as he drew lazy circles over my boobs.
“6:25 p.m.” I warned. A sinking feeling grew in my chest. I had only begun to feel comfortable in my role as his girl and we were parting again. I mean, who goes all the way to America for five days?
Jamie shifted to check out the time on his phone. “Right, come on. I’m going to charter a helicopter to take us back to the house. It’s 10:15 a.m. now. Can you be ready by 11:30?”
“Sure, what about your car?” A pang of disappointment ran through me that we were leaving the city and going back to the house.
“That’s no problem. Felix has an extra set of keys. He can pick it up and take it back to Catrina’s.”
“Did you two have fun?” Catrina asked in all innocence, and Nick chuckled.
“I’d say. Daisy looks tired—”
“Nick!” Jamie warned, his voice sharp. I groaned, wondering if I’d ever get to the point where Nick and Ryan’s banter wouldn’t embarrass me anymore.
“What? I was only going to say she looked worn out,” he replied as he bit back a grin.
“Who’s worn out?” Ryan asked as he came into view from the hallway. “Oh, Daisy, yeah. What the hell have you been doing with her, Uncle Jamie?”
“If you have to ask a question like that, you’d better stick to girls because you’re not ready for women,” Paddy replied. I caught sight of my face in a mirror on the wall and my cheeks were beyond red for all the attention they’d given me.
They continued ribbing me, and Jamie chuckled, looking proud at them guessing what we’d been doing while we’d been gone.
“How’s the pool?” Jamie asked, suddenly changing the subject and direction of the conversation. I folded my arms and wandered over to the patio door. Glad he’d bought me some space.
“Fabulous. Both Bernie and I sat in there for nearly three hours chatting yesterday. The submerged hot tub is something else,” Catrina replied.
“Fancy a dip?” Jamie asked me, nodding toward the pool, through the patio doors.
“You’ll be safe out
