you get your lazy old ass out of that bed and take a shower, Uncle Jamie,” Nick said.
“There’s no way I’m eating turkey for breakfast,” Jamie mumbled, wincing in agony, like even talking felt too painful, and closed his eyes again.
“Paddy and Bernie have already been for a walk on the beach. It was them that confirmed the time with her for us to eat,” Ryan informed us.
“Paddy’s up and about?” I asked, surprised that had even been possible given the amount of alcohol he’d put away before I couldn’t remember anything else.
“Yeah, they woke us up having noisy sex this morning.”
“Are you serious?” Jamie asked, sounding jealous. My face felt warm in reaction to Ryan’s comment.
“Yeah, they were quite impressive. I didn’t know a guy of that age had stamina like that. But man … the grunting that guy does when—”
“Fuck, that’s it, beat it,” Jamie snapped, opening his eyes and cutting Ryan off. “I need to get up and find something for this headache and tell the fucking housekeeper to bury that turkey, it stinks like the dead.”
“It does. Can you smell it in my hair?” I asked, walking toward Jamie. Both boys snickered at the same time.
“I’m not touching that one,” Nick stated, his face all innocent, while Ryan practically folded in half laughing.
“Go… now,” Jamie barked, suddenly full of life, and flashed them a murderous look.
For a minute, I stood, wondering why Jamie had suddenly lost his temper with the boys until he snickered under his breath and shook his head as he got up off the bed.
“They were being smutty, but I guess you’d have to know them to understand how they tick,” he said, dragging himself to his feet and standing naked in front of the boys. “Beat it, I said,” Jamie told them and Nick chuckled and nodded at Jamie’s flaccid dick. Mortified, I did the worst thing possible and covered it with my hand.
“Looks like you’d be flogging a dead horse there this morning, Daisy,” he joked, before running away from the door.
“The day can’t get any worse, right?” I asked, and Jamie laughed, even though he looked very green around the gills.
Chapter 15
Less than half an hour later, Jamie looked his usual gorgeous self and appeared bright as a button. The shower had obviously worked its magic and he’d recovered from his night of binge drinking. However, I was still mentally crawling by the time we reached the table for lunch.
The Thanksgiving feast looked like the rich roast dinner we’d have on Christmas day at home, but I eyed the mashed potatoes as the one food I may have been able to tolerate out of all of the full dishes in front of me.
Sitting gingerly on the edge of my seat, I stared straight toward Jamie on the opposite side of the table, but within two feet of the turkey, which I saw in my peripheral vision. My stomach rolled again, and I took a deep breath before I became aware that Catrina had smiled at me. I forced a smile back but the shocked look on her face told me mine had likely looked like I had constipation.
Before we began to eat, everyone around the table said what they were thankful for, and as Jamie was the host, he went first.
“I’m thankful for my bandmates; my brothers in all but name, and for the life we have carved from our God-given talents. I’m thankful for my wonderfully strong big sister and the two incredible kick-ass young men she has raised. And this year, I’m most thankful for the snow and St. Patrick’s Day, because if it weren’t for fate aligning those two things, I’d never have met my beautiful girl, in Dublin.”
“Pussy whipped,” Nick muttered through a cough, and everyone at the table laughed. I was surprised at the amount of teasing Jamie took from them but I admired the openness of their relationship.
Catrina’s thanks sounded touching, if a tad predictable. “I give thanks for my amazing brother who has never let me or the boys down. I couldn’t have wished for a better man who is calm, patient and so laid back. Jamie has been a fabulous role model for my sons. They are confident, witty and generous with their time, thanks to his guidance.” Jamie looked slightly embarrassed at the outpouring from his sister, but it gave me another insight that he wasn’t just out to impress me, he was a genuinely good man with a very giving
