wrapped up tight because I was naked. Completely and totally naked. I felt my body against the softness of the blankets.
All Cole had to do was rip the blankets down and…
No.
I swallowed hard. “How did you sleep?”
How did you sleep? What the hell is this?
It was like I suddenly forgot how to talk to someone the morning after sex.
We weren’t married. We weren’t together. We were two people who were in the mood and took advantage of being alone.
Cole grinned at me. “Been a while?”
“What?”
“You’re acting like it was your first time,” he said. “You know, whatever is under those covers, I saw. I also kissed a lot of it too.”
My cheeks began to burn. “I know that. I’m not an idiot, Cole.”
“I didn’t say you were. You’re just holding those blankets so tight.”
“I’m cold.”
Cole leaned over me a little. “You know I can help with that.”
I rolled my eyes. “Please. You had your fun. If you want to do something for me, make some coffee.”
“Make coffee?” Cole asked. “Maya, there’s a full breakfast in the kitchen waiting.”
“What?”
Cole laughed. “You must have been comfortable or really drunk. You didn’t hear them come in?”
“Them?” I asked.
“Don’t worry,” Cole said, showing his hands. “I wasn’t cuddled up next to you or anything.”
“Okay.”
“I knew they were coming. It was all arranged. There’s plenty to eat and drink. Hey. If you’re in the mood for a little hair of the dog…”
“No,” I blurted out. “No alcohol for breakfast. Ugh. That just made my stomach turn.”
“Fair enough,” Cole said. “Why don’t you get dressed and come into the kitchen?”
“Why don’t you bring me coffee in here?” I asked.
“Bring you coffee, Maya?” Cole asked. “I pay you to bring me coffee.” He climbed to his feet. “I’m going to take a shower. I expect my coffee and breakfast ready by the time I get out.”
He walked away and my jaw dropped.
Oh, well, good morning to you too, Cockhead Cole.
I hurried to the bedroom with one of the blankets wrapped around me.
I locked the bedroom door and took a few seconds to catch my breath, then I got dressed.
In the bedroom, I attempted to fix my wild hair.
I looked like a hangover mess. But I also looked like I had great sex the night before. There was a little bit of a glow to my face and the second I thought about what Cole and I had done, I smiled.
I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.
I grabbed the wet washcloth from the night before and washed my face.
After a few breaths, last night became nothing more than a memory.
I dried my face, exited the bedroom, and went to the kitchen.
“Whoa,” was my reaction when I saw the food.
Cole hadn’t been joking at all.
The counter was full of breakfast foods.
I spotted the coffee and grabbed a mug.
I made coffee for Cole and walked it from the kitchen to the master bedroom.
“Cole,” I said as I knocked.
“Come in,” his voice said.
I slowly opened the door to find him freshly showered, the smell of his musky soap lingering in the air.
He was wearing a clean pair of black pants and a fresh, white shirt that was buttoned up and tucked into the pants. He stared at me as he knotted his tie but left it a little loose.
“Coffee,” I said.
“Perfect. Thanks.”
He walked up to me and took the coffee.
When his hands touched mine, I shivered.
I really needed to kill off anything hanging around from last night.
“We need to talk about last night,” I said.
“Sure,” he said. “Breakfast?”
“Do I have to cut up your pancakes?”
Cole touched his stomach. “Do I look like I’m built to eat senseless carbs, Maya?”
I took a deep breath and turned away from him.
Yup.
Back to hating him.
Cole stood as he ate.
I sat at the dining room table.
The coffee was amazing. The food was better.
The headache from the hangover went away much quicker than I expected it to.
All in all, it was a decent enough morning other than the elephant in the room.
Or better yet… the memory of wild, hot sex in front of the fireplace with my boss…
Cole took one last hearty bite of a piece of cantaloupe and put his plate down on the counter. He wiped his hands and adjusted his tie into its correct position.
“Not sure what you want to talk about, Maya,” he said. “You said you weren’t going to fuck me over. I hope that’s still true.”
I nodded. “It is. But if I wanted to, what would you do?”
Cole narrowed his eyes. “Are
