mean I can’t prove that? I just heard you say that shit. I’m old darlin’ but I ain’t deaf.”
“How do you know? Tattoo guns are loud. You could be losing your hearing, easily.” I counter to buy myself some time. Did I probably blurt out that I’m in love with Noah? Yeah, but that doesn’t mean that I have to say that I did.
“I am not going deaf.” He looks at me with a frown.
I cross my arms and tap my foot. “Are you sure? You could be mistaking a bunch of things that people are saying to you. Geez, you could even be missing details about what someone wants on a tattoo.”
He walks up to me so that we’re toe to toe. He looks down with his hands on his hips. He definitely makes for an intimidating sight, or he would if Jessie hasn’t told me stories about he took care of her while they were growing up. He kind of loses some of his scary factors when you learn that. But he definitely scares people who don’t know him.
“I have never fucked up someone’s tattoo.” He growls impressively.
I look up at him and roll my eyes. I watch his eyes narrow and realize that just like his best friend; it annoys him too. “Did I say that you screwed one up? Nope, I said that you might be missing things…just like you just did.”
His head tilts and his dark eyes narrow, giving him a menacing appearance. “You really want to do this? You get that I could pick you up by the back of your shirt and literally fling you to the side…right?”
I give him a big smile that actually seems to annoy him even more. “You get that after listening to Jessie tell me stories about you that are as scary as a puppy to me…right?”
“See this right here.” He points his finger between us. “This is what happens when you try to be a good friend when you’re younger and help someone else out. That shit comes back to bite you in the ass. Next time, I’m not going to follow your sassy ass to make sure that you’re okay.”
That reminds me…
“What were you doing at the women’s shelter, anyway?” I completely forgot that I saw him at the women’s shelter, which happens to be down the street from my father’s church. I was too annoyed and angry when I was leaving to put too much thought into it.
“What was that?” He’s now the one looking like a deer in headlights…haha.
“What were you doing there? That’s an odd place to be hanging out on a weekday Edgy.” I sing songs.
He mouths the word Edgy at me like it’s a curse. “You have no proof that I was there.”
I give him the same smirk that he gave me before. “You really want to do this?” I try to make my voice deep, to sound like him.
His head goes back a little. “You think that I won’t stand here all night with you? You really think you’re gonna win?”
I give him a shrug. “I have the world’s noisiest brother. Thanks to his nosey butt, I can stand here all week and do this.”
As soon as I say that I hear a gasp followed by, “I am not nosey.”
I spin around and grab my chest. Not only is my brother standing there, looking grumpy as all get out, but so are a ton of other men. Noah, Ben, Mason, Danny, JJ, and Declan. All of them except for my brother and Noah look way too amused for comfort.
“Oh my god! You just gave me a heart attack!” I screech, still clutching my chest. “How long have you been standing there?”
They all give me incredulous looks.
“How long have they been standing there?” Edge asks me. “They’ve been there about the whole damn time. Your ass needs to pay better attention to your surroundings.”
I turn back around to look at him. “Why would I need to be paying attention to my surroundings right now?”
“Why the fuck wouldn’t you?” Is his eye doing that weird twitching thing that Noah’s does? Huh, really must be a guy thing.
I place my hands on my hips. “Why would I when I’m standing here with you?”
He mimics my pose. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
I tilt my head back and look up at the ceiling before looking back at my frenemy. “Who is going to be dumb enough to try to do something bad when you’re standing
