me, and I can’t help but peek at him from the corner of my eye. A girl only has so much willpower, and he’s been shirtless for days. I’m like a saint, or a ninja…nope better yet a Jedi. I’m like a freaking Jedi when it comes to ignoring all of that muscle. But even Jedi’s slip up sometimes, I mean, hello Anakin. I snort mentally.
I look over again and see Noah staring at me curiously. “What?” I ask, barely resisting the urge to fix my hair. I’m sure that it’s a complete rat’s nest right now.
“What were you thinking about that had you smirking?” He tilts his head like he’s trying to see into my mind.
“About being a Jedi.” I blurt out without thinking. “Well, more like how they aren’t always good. Because you know, Anakin Skywalker.” I look at Noah who’s just staring at me blankly.
It’s at this moment that I realize what a complete nerd I am. Chances are that if I had to choose between going out to a club or a bar or staying home, I’m going to stay home. And I’m going to make sure that I’m watching sci-i, fantasy or something paranormal. And the way Noah is looking at me, makes me realize that I’ve probably never divulged this to anyone at work.
“You were thinking about being a Jedi?” I can’t even blame him for his incredulous tone. I keep my geek under wraps pretty well.
Growing up in the household that I did, movies like that were a full-on escape for me. I could pretend that I was someone a lot stronger than I actually was. I could pretend that I wasn’t someone that you wanted to mess with. Pretty much anyone else but me.
I can feel my face getting hot. I tug on my left ear, a nervous habit that I can’t seem to break. “Ah yeah. Movies like that are my favorite.” I cough out before rounding up a year’s worth of trash that we’ve seemed to accumulate in only a few hours. Seriously, I don’t even remember that bag of salt & vinegar chips. I am definitely going to feel like garbage tomorrow after eating so much junk all day.
I scurry into the kitchen and away from the prying eyes of Noah. He’s been looking at me oddly all afternoon and I need a break. Spending all this time with him is killing me. Well, my hormones are killing me, but it’s the same difference really. I don’t fully trust myself not to start rubbing up against it like a cat rolling around in catnip.
It’s with that thought that I go back out to the living room. “Welp, it’s been a long day. I’m going to go to bed.” I say like I’ve just downed eight shots of espresso.
Noah looks at his phone then back at me. Is his eye and cheek twitching? I can’t really tell from here. “It’s six-thirty.”
Noah
S he stares at me like a deer in headlights. “Yup, well, need to get a good night’s rest. Tons to do tomorrow.”
“Right,” I grumble. We both know that she’s full of shit. We have absolutely nothing to do for a few more days until I start physical therapy.
Her face turns bright red, and she gives me an awkward little wave. “Night.” She squeaks before hightailing it into her room and closing the door.
It feels like a sucker punch to my gut knowing that she would rather go to bed at six at night instead of being near me. I can’t really blame her since I haven’t been overly chipper. But I thought that we were making some progress today.
We sat together the entire day, side by side, watching TV. She was so close to me that I could feel the heat coming off of her body. Thankfully, watching a show about a shitload of crazy rednecks kept my dick in check. That really was the craziest shit that I’ve ever seen. I smile to myself while shaking my head.
The sound of my phone going off startles me out of my thoughts. I grab the phone off the coffee table and smirk before hitting the green button.
“Hey man,” I say in greeting.
“How’s it going, buddy?” Edge asks in a chuckle. “You doing okay or has she tried to kill you again?”
I smile and lean back to get comfortable. “Funny.” I drawl.
“What? I’m being serious. Only you would get stuck living with the person who actually came close to offing you.”
“I
