the same powers as my daughter does.
“Well, whatever you girls decide, just know that you can always depend on me and any help I can provide,” Glorianna informs the both of us.
“I’ll need some help with housework and Emmaline’s care. I’ll be grateful for any assistance you can offer me.” And, if she’s around, I’ll be able to keep an eye on her and figure out if she’s friend or foe. Not knowing one hundred percent who we can trust wholeheartedly, I’ll do my part to narrow down the list of suspects. I need to discuss things with Trigger alone and I need to do this now. Stealthily, I pull Trigger down the hallway, thankful he and Dooly wrapped up their conversation, and into our bedroom; our room still sounds unfamiliar and foreign to me.
He chuckles as I shut the door. “Mate, this is not the time for us to join again,” Trigger whispers seductively in my ear.
“No, that wasn’t my plan. Why do all males think this way when a woman pulls him into a private room to have an in-depth conversation? Never mind, I don’t have time to debate this topic with you right now. Emmaline also revealed to me that we are in imminent danger and we can’t trust everyone that we believe we can. This is the reason why I can’t possibly leave Emmaline or Scar alone with anyone besides one of us. Your job is finding the rogues that are out doing this much harm to all of the humans and supernaturals.” Not saying that my job isn’t as important, but Shyla is able to handle our combined jobs while I ensure the safety of our children.

“You’re right, Vaughn, I need to get the security tightened up and running on shifts. This way, I can head out to Echo’s house to take a closer look around his property. I’m missing something, something crucial and I will not leave here without knowing who we can or can’t trust. I’ll put cameras on the doors and windows on the inside, also cameras running along the perimeter of the house and property. I’ll have to make sure that all of the cameras are not visible to the naked eye, just in case we have someone idly standing by, hiding in the shadows thinking that they won’t be discovered or seen. These motherfuckers will not win on my watch. They will be caught one way or another.” Walking closer to Vaughn, I sweep her into my arms and plaster my lips on hers. The thought of anything happening to the woman and child in my life has my chest aching. I just found them. There’s no way I’ll make things easy on anyone who tries to rip them away from me. “Love you,” I inform her as I tap her on the ass with the palm of my hand and walk outside with a mission of protecting my loved ones in my mind.
As I’m putting up cameras around the perimeter, I notice a shadow moving rather quickly through the wooded area behind the houses neighboring ours. I release my bear, giving over my body to him, allowing me to move quicker and stealthier than I can in my human form.
I will catch this sonofabitch! Tonight, I’m done playing defense, it’s time for me to be the predator instead of the prey.
Running from one side of the yard to the other, I continuously scan every inch up and down the neighborhood. Looking through the woods, I see the shadow in the tops of the trees leaping swiftly from one limb to another. Knowing this fucker realizes I cannot reach the tops of the trees, that’s where the shadow stays and hides like the coward he is. As I have always been made aware of through science classes as a kid, my mind reminds me that what goes up, must come down. I will keep up with this shadow until it has no choice but to come down. Out of nowhere, I see a portal appear, ripping through the atmosphere, and the shadow seems to move a bit faster than it was before.
Just as quickly as the portal appears, it disappears, and along with it, the shadow. It makes me wonder for a second if I saw an illusion, or if what I saw was real.
Making my way back home, my head is hanging down low in shame and I’m feeling defeated. Will I be able to protect my family? Will
