and look around. My mind fills with visions of little feet pitter-pattering around the house and laughter filling the once soundless place. I can’t wait to experience it all, including the wailing and temper tantrums. These thoughts wade in my mind like a river freely flowing downstream. Maybe having a mate isn’t as bad as I’ve perceived it in my head. It could have some perks. One of them being the building of a family that I’ve always envisioned.
Emmaline is sleeping soundly in the cradle of my arms after the long, strenuous day we’ve all had. Trigger has brought in all of the bags that contain the baby’s belongings from my car. We might have gone a little overboard shopping and purchasing all of the items Emmaline will need, but hell, neither one of us has experienced anything of this nature before.
She will have to sleep in my room for the first couple of days or so until we are able to purchase her a bed and set up the nursery. I’m waiting for Trigger to take control of his claim that he has made on me. The more time we spend attached at the hip, the more strongly I begin to desire him claiming me in every way known to man as his woman.
I feel like a Yo-Yo whose string he’s pulling. One minute, I’m ready to fight this mating with a passion that a workaholic like myself possesses, on the other, I’m ready to bend on my knee and beg for him to take me, own me, squash the heat that is residing in my core. A fire that’s blazing hot like logs on a fire, with him holding the extinguisher. I’m woman enough to admit that he’s the only one who could contain this inferno that’s building its way through my entire being.

As I take a look around this cozy little home she’s made inviting for not only herself but for visitors, I catch Vaughn’s longing stare and wonder what she might be thinking so intensely about. Knowing that I will be staying here with my future family has me feeling downright boastful. For now, I need to get the bassinet put into Vaughn’s bedroom so that she will be able to lay Emmaline down. Putting all the bags down in the foyer, I rush outside to grab the temporary bed so that Emmaline can comfortably sleep outside of Vaughn’s arms.
After Emmaline is fast asleep, Vaughn quickly disappears into the kitchen. Smelling a very heavenly smell coming from that vicinity, I put one foot in front of the other and make my way in that direction. Walking through the doors, I witness Vaughn dancing and singing to an overly played and popular rap song. Not wanting to interrupt the lovely view I have the pleasure of watching, I lean on the door frame, allowing it to take the brunt of my weight. I find myself envisioning and fantasizing what I will be doing to her here at some point in time.
Just when I’m picturing her sitting on top of the countertops baring her body to me, she turns, facing me with the biggest, most triumphant smile resting upon her face before I notice the rose-colored tint begin to flush her cheeks. “I was just heading outside to check the perimeter when I smelled such a delicious odor coming from this area. Didn’t notice how hungry I was until the smell came rolling out. How much longer until dinner?”
“About fifteen minutes, will that give you enough time to make sure we are safe and secure? This is not a big space of land or home by any means, but you might miss someone standing in plain sight if you move too quickly without checking all of the shadows that lurk out there. Over to the right of the house, there’s a cubby hole embedded into the side of the brick, but it’s covered by shrubbery and there are no lights out there to light up the entire yard.”
“Yes, ma’am, Deputy Dooly will be our outer guard, keeping watch in the darkened shadows while I keep watch over the inside. We will both need a good night’s sleep in order to rise early in the morning for our impending meeting with the elders.” Damn, the idea of both of us waking up underneath the same roof has my bear purring in delight. Walking past my love, my mate, my world has my heart skipping a couple of beats.
