Sawyer looked at me and I saw the love in his eyes but something else. Perhaps uncertainty?
“Is that what you want? I’d love nothing more than for you to live with me full time, but if you’re not ready, it doesn’t change anything between us.” I held my breath, wondering what his response was going to be.
“I’m ready. I want to live with you. I’ve just never done it. I mean, I’ve lived with Chris, obviously. But that’s different.” Sawyer smiled at me before he tried to bury his face in my neck.
“No, hang on,” I said and leaned back a bit so I could keep eye contact. “I love you with everything I have but if you’re not ready, it’s okay. We can wait. We can go on as we have been. I don’t want you to feel rushed.”
“I don’t.” Sawyer shook his head. “I’ve actually been talking about it with Chris. And Ford, believe it or not. And I want this. I want to be here with you, wake up in your arms every morning.”
“I want that too. This is new for me as well, and it’s scary as fuck. I’m thirty-five and it’s taken me this long to find someone I want to be with. Really be with.” I really hoped that I wasn’t pushing too hard. I had a set of matching rings hidden in one of the book shelves in the living room; I was just waiting for Sawyer to get to the same spot I was. I knew he wasn’t ready yet, and that was okay. But when he was, I was going to ask him to be mine forever if he’d have me.
“Then if you want it too, I’m moving in. Tomorrow,” Sawyer dove in for a quick kiss and then retreated again.
“Tomorrow? Really?”
“Yep.” Sawyer rubbed the back of his neck while biting his bottom lip. “I’m actually already packed. I just need to start moving stuff. A trip with your truck and Ford’s as well as the Jeep and Chris’ SUV, and I should be completely moved in.”
That was…I couldn’t believe it was possible.
“Yeah?” I said.
“Yeah,” Sawyer echoed. “So what do you think?”
“I think we need to wear these ridiculous sweatshirts to the Christmas party and then come back here and see where things go.” I pulled Sawyer to me and kissed his lips once again. “Then I’m going to make love to you before falling asleep in your arms,” I whispered in his ear.
“I like that plan,” Sawyer said quietly.
“Me too. I like tomorrow’s plan more though.”
“Moving?”
“Oh yeah,” I said. I knew it was going to suck. Moving always did. But if it got Sawyer here in the house with me, then I’d gladly move hundreds of boxes if needed.
“And then?” Sawyer grinned.
“Then we’ll have to celebrate.” I nibbled my way down Sawyer’s neck. I was just pushing my hands under his sweatshirt when there was a loud knock on the outer door, which caused me to growl. “Chris?” I asked after sighing in frustration.
“Probably. Ford just comes on in. We need to get going anyway,” Sawyer told me before he grabbed one more quick kiss and started to pull away from me. I stopped him before he could get too far though. When Sawyer turned back to me, I cupped his face with my right hand.
“I love you.”
“Love you too.” Sawyer looked at me and I could see the questions in his eyes.
“Nothing wrong. I just wanted to say it again. I’d begun to think I’d never find someone I’d feel this way about but you surprise me over and over.”
“Yeah?” Sawyer wrapped his arms around my waist and held on tight.
“Yeah. I love you and wanted to make sure you knew. That’s all.”
“I did. But I’m not complaining. Besides, moving in is just the next step for us. There’s a few more to come,” Sawyer said and then he kissed me again before pulling out of my arms.
He was gone before I could figure out how to respond to his last comment. What did he mean exactly? Whatever it was, I couldn’t wait to figure it out.
