wrong you are.” He rushes forward, his hands wrapping around my waist. Before I have a second to think, he hoists me over his shoulder.
I let out a loud scream, feeling my grip on Ivy tear away from me. I shake and shudder as I kick my legs out, my palms slamming into his back with as much force as I can muster, but it’s like he doesn’t even feel it. He just keeps walking with me as I yell at him, “No. No. My sister! Ivy, Ivy,” I scream as I lift my head to look and notice another strong man yanking her along as she struggles in his grasp. I can’t help it as the dam wall finally breaks.
Tears.
Tears I am not used to shedding run down my cheeks
I was supposed to protect Ivy.
I was supposed to always be by her side.
How can I, when I can’t get away from this fucking brute?
“Ivy!” I call out again as we reach a black van. Fear cripples me as the man slides me down his body, and I feel every toned muscle.
What the hell?
I’m stunned at how the move doesn’t repulse me.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
Every single part of me shakes as he stares in my eyes.
“Don’t worry, Chiquita, this will all be over soon.”
Is he going to kill me?
My eyes shift to look around. Ivy’s being taken to another black van, and I move to run to her, but the brute grips my biceps holding me in place.
“Uh-uh, you’re not going anywhere. Say goodbye.” He narrows his gaze on me, his mind ticking over as his eyes wander my body, up then down. A shiver travels the length of my spine. The way his eyes devour me is not something I’m used to. Men always pay attention to Ivy. This man, whoever he is, sees me.
Not that I want him to.
I want him to let Ivy and me go.
So now I do the only thing I can think of—plead. “You don’t have to do this. Let my sister and I go. We’ll go back to Cuba. You’ll never see us again. There will be no trouble.”
He purses his lips. “Can’t do that, Chiquita. If I don’t deliver the six packages, I don’t get paid. I’m running a business. You understand?”
“So, what? I’m nothing but money to you?”
He shrugs. “It’s nothing personal. I didn’t pick you off the street, the buyer did. As I said, I’m just the delivery man.”
The brute says it so matter of fact that anger rushes through me like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I bring my free hand up, slamming it across his cheek, pushing his head to the side. The sting reverberates through my palm as he turns back, glaring at me. “You really are a firecracker, aren’t you? While I’ve enjoyed our time together… more than I was expecting, I really need to get you into this van. Will you go willingly?”
My breathing is rushed and hard as I glare at him with nothing but loathing. “Que te la pique un pollo!”
The corner of his lips turns up, the smirk makes him even more attractive.
Stop being attracted to the asshole, Eva!
“So, that’s a yes?”
Coating my mouth, I spit at his feet, causing him to chuckle. “Have it your way, Chiquita.”
He holds my biceps firmly, spinning me around. He’s so strong, I can’t fight him.
Fear cripples me as I peer over to the other van where Ivy’s being loaded inside. “Ivy!” I call out to her. “Please… please don’t take my sister. She’s everything I have. Please. I beg you.”
The brute yanks open the back of the van, trying to push me inside. My hands grip on to the edges, but they slip with the humidity in the air. “Please. Please tell me my sister can come with me. Please. Please don’t split us up!”
“Get in the van, Chiquita!” His voice is deep. There’s an annoyed sound, but it’s also full of tension. He shoves me forward as I let out a small squeal and fall face-first onto the metal checker plate floor of the van. He’s on me in a second, drawing my hands together. I try to fight him with everything I have, but he’s too strong as he ties my wrists with cable ties. I clench my teeth. “You’re nothing but a bastardo!”
He tilts his head. “Royally, sweetheart.”
As he grabs something beside me, I furrow my brows, but I’m shutting down. I
