house.
Two men came out the front door of the house beside it, immediately falling in line with the rest.
She found Pierce almost immediately, his long strides easy to identify as he moved to the front door of Amelia’s home. It opened and an older woman came out. A few of the men grabbed bags as she passed them out the door.
Mona’s heart picked up speed as a smaller figure appeared. If you didn’t know what you were looking at it would be difficult to know who it was.
Hopefully difficult enough this went off without a hitch.
Pierce was immediately at Amelia’s side, tucking her close as Zeke flanked her other side, the men practically dragging her toward the waiting vans.
In under two minutes they had both Helen and Amelia, their bags, and both the men from the house next door loaded into the vans. They started to move even before the doors were closed.
Mona let out some of the air she’d been holding, the tension in her body relaxing a little.
They had her.
Now they just had to get home.
The vans turned out of the small housing development, making a right and falling in with the flow of traffic.
Dutch and Isaac took turns briefing the drivers on possible slow spots and alternative routes as they worked through the fastest and safest possible way to get them all back to headquarters.
The closer they got the more Mona was able to breathe.
Just a few more minutes and they would be back. Then they could come together and figure out how to find Anthony Sanders and—
Her lungs stopped working. “What’s that?”
Dutch spun to look her way before following her line of sight to the screen still showing the exterior of Helen and Amelia’s house.
A black Charger slowly eased down the street. The windows were blacked almost completely out, obscuring whoever was inside.
“We’ve got movement at the residence.” Isaac stood from his chair, eyes glued to the screen. “Black Dodge Charger.”
The sedan came to a stop between the two houses.
Her heart went to her throat as the doors of the sedan opened and four men spilled out. Two went to Helen and Amelia’s house while the other two went to the house next door. Mona jumped a little as they kicked the doors in with a force that she could almost feel.
Minutes.
That’s all that Amelia and Helen were saved by. Minutes.
“Looks like they got an ID on your girls.” Isaac’s tone was calm as he continued to watch the screen as the men disappeared into the houses. “They made entry.”
In less than a minute they were back, rushing out the doors and to the Charger.
“Oh no.” Both Mona’s hands went to her mouth as the car raced away.
A second later an explosion rattled the camera pointed at the homes. A second later it happened again.
“Holy shit.” Heidi’s eyes were wide as she stared, open mouthed, at the screen. “They just blew that shit up.”
Dutch and Isaac locked eyes.
Isaac eased down into his chair. “We’re going to need you boys to get back here as fast as possible.”
Dutch pointed to Alec. “Tell Gentry to get as many of his men as he can to the front gates.” He picked up the phone, continuing to bark orders at Alec as he dialed. “Tell him fully-armed.” Dutch turned away and started talking into the phone. “Get a van to the front gate ready for a possible blockade.”
“They’re coming here?” Bess turned to Mona. “Are they coming here?”
Mona turned to the faces of the women around her. “They won’t get in here.” She shook her head, trying to be like Pierce. A calm in the face of a storm.
Even if she knew it was fake, they didn’t.
“They’ll never make it through the gates.” Mona turned to Heidi. “Warn Vincent.”
Heidi’s eyes went wide. “Shit. I wouldn’t have even thought about that.”
Alpha and Beta were rotating men through, providing GHOST additional manpower to help secure their facility.
Otherwise there would only be a team of ten men trying to protect one of the government’s most valuable assets.
Heidi danced in place as her phone rang over the speaker.
“How did you get this number?”
“Shut up.” Heidi’s eyes lifted to the screens. “You need to secure your location, like now.”
“Any particular reason?” Vincent’s tone was annoyingly calm.
“You should probably just trust me on this.” Heidi lifted one shoulder. “Or don’t and if that’s what you’re going to do you can just send our men back.”
“I’m pretty sure you’re not authorized to make that call.”
“She’s authorized to
