a good time. I could really use a break to relax and have a few drinks with you,” she pushes up to her tippy-toes and hovers her lips just in front of mine. “Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky behind the bar if you play your cards right.”
My hand slides down her waist until I have her hand in mine. “You’ve got yourself a deal,” I tell her with a wicked grin, positive that I could have that arranged.
I stop by the bar and order Amelia and Zoey a drink before taking them back to the table and getting comfortable. We sit down to find Zoey talking about the shipment of products she received for her store and explaining that she needs customer reviews for her website. Jet is the first to raise his hand as a volunteer, but I find myself looking at Amelia. I mean, if she’s down, then I’m down.
She grins right back at me, and I guess that means she’s down. Seems like it really is going to be an interesting night.
More drinks are ordered, and before I know it, Jet is being pulled off the table. No one needs to see him let loose and serenade Zoey with a private dance. Despite Zoey saying she’s not really into Jet, she sure seemed pretty thrilled at the idea of watching him go all ‘Magic Mike’ on her.
Chief falls into my side, telling me all about what a great father I’m going to be while Ax gets up to drink alone at the bar. It’s not unusual for him. He’s not one for wild drinking, especially tonight as he’s on call. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took off shortly to get home and have a few hours of sleep before he gets called back in for some type of emergency.
Ax has had a pretty shit day as it is. His cousin lived in the apartment block that went up in flames earlier today. Unfortunately, her place couldn’t be saved.
We all watch on as some woman approaches him at the bar with hungry eyes. There’s no doubt about it, Ax had that dark and dangerous thing that chicks seem to love. He has absolutely no issues finding someone to keep his bed warm, but nights like tonight, it’s just not going to happen. The woman sits down beside him and attempts to gain his attention while a strange familiarity pulses through me. I can’t help but feel as though I know her from somewhere but can’t quite put my finger on it.
Chief shakes his head at the scene, drawing Amelia’s attention. “What’s wrong?” she asks in concern.
Chief laughs, but it comes out as more of a scoff. “Nothing, I just feel sorry for that woman,” he clarifies, nodding towards the bar so Amelia can see what’s going on. “She’s going to flirt shamelessly with Ax, and he’s going to shut her down over and over again until she gets the hint and leaves him alone.”
“What?” Amelia sighs as compassion crosses her features. “That’s not nice.”
“Don’t get me wrong,” Chief says, rushing to Ax’s defense. “He’ll do it in a nice way, but when he’s had the kind of shit day like he’s had today, we hardly even get the time of day, let alone some woman looking to use him for a good screw.”
Amelia sighs in understanding. “I guess that’s fair, but maybe someone should warn her.”
We all shrug, “She’ll figure it out eventually,” I tell her. “Besides, I’ve seen that chick around here a few times. She can handle it.”
Amelia gives in, and I find myself glancing back up at Ax when movement behind him catches my attention. “What the fuck?” I murmur to myself, watching in disbelief as I try to make sense of what I’m seeing.
Amelia’s hand slides onto my forearm and gives a squeeze. “What is it?”
“It’s Jessa,” I say, watching through narrowed eyes as she approaches the bar. “Does she look drunk to you?”
Every eye at the table turns her way and watches with bated breath as all conversation ceases. Jessa stands, slightly wobbly at the bar, half out of view as Ax’s big as fuck body blocks her out. Her fingernails drum against the bar, and I see fucking red. Even if she’s not drinking, she shouldn’t be at a place like this while she’s pregnant with my kid.
The second a fucking shot glass is placed down before her, I’m out of my fucking seat.
That fucking bitch.
I storm across the bar
