don't know."
But Adam wasn't having any of that. He jerked me into his chest and kissed me roughly, in front of God and my father. "Yes, you do."
And staring into his eyes, he was right, I did know.
"Okay. Let's go to a concert."
Jenna
Sixty concerts later…
“Are you here? Did you make it?” Adam’s voice shouted through my phone’s earpiece.
“Yes! I’m on my way backstage!” I flashed my pass at the security guy guarding the door, and he opened it with a flourish. Screaming fans made it difficult to hear, but I thought I heard him say welcome, Mrs. Smith. I’d never get used to being called that. Maybe because I still worked under my maiden name.
Breakout was back in New York, headlining their own concert tour. Tonight was the first stop on a three-month limited international show. And it would be the only one I’d make because I was two months into a six month run for a new show on Broadway. It wasn’t a significant role, but hopefully, it would open doors for me. And I had no one to thank, but Adam, who’d long ago introduced me to his sister, the famous Diana Sheridan, and insisted she help me get a leg up in the industry.
“Hurry!” Adam shouted into the phone. From all the background noise, he was waiting just offstage for me to arrive.
“I’m coming! I’m coming!” And I had some news to share. I’d thought about waiting, but I couldn’t.
Adam stayed on the phone until he saw me climbing the stairs to reach him.
“What took you so long?” He buried his face in my neck. I waved over his shoulder at Jordan. She and Asher were still together. Engaged. We’d be going to their wedding as soon as the tour wrapped. Thankfully, we’d all become good friends.
“It’s New York.”
I felt Adam’s grin against my skin.
“It’s almost time. I have to go,” he said but made no move to release me. I was okay with that.
“I have something to tell you.”
That got his head out of my neck. “What?”
Goodness, I never tired of those eyes. I could stare into them for hours…and had.
“Jen. What is it? I have to go.” But I knew he wouldn’t go until he was good and ready. It had become a thing with the guys. He’d stay backstage and make out with me while the Asher and Jarom teased him about being late to the show. The fans loved it.
Rising onto my toes, I whispered into his ear. He didn’t move, not a muscle. I lowered myself back onto my heels to see his expression. So worth it!
“Are you serious?”
I nodded. We hadn’t planned for this to happen, so I’d been a little unsure when I found out, but…
I had nothing to worry about. I knew that for sure when my husband of only a few months lifted me off my feet and let out a roar.
“When?” he asked, those eyes I loved so much sparkling with more happiness than I ever thought possible.
“October.”
I watched his eyes as he did the math in his head. “Holy crap!”
“Hey!” I swatted his shoulder, but he only grinned, looking incredibly smug.
“Honeymoon baby, baby!” he cried, just before kissing me. And kissing me. And kissing me.
Until…
“Uh, Adam. Adam Smith. You’re needed on stage, please.”
