on Raven’s part.
In seconds, I’d blasted the Siren with my fire, leaving him in a pile on the ground. We rushed into the bare room and immediately Caspian had Kai lifted onto his shoulder. He was badly injured, so much more than before, but he was alive and now we had him. I could worry about his injuries once we were out of this hell hole.
“I smell the ocean,” I said and followed my senses to a door that I thought would lead us out of there. We took wrong turn after wrong turn down dank and darkened halls and had to circle back more times than we went straight.
Fuck, the more time we spent in this Gods forsaken place, the more time it was giving Raven to find out we had broken free. More time to hunt us down.
“This fucking Bloodsworn of yours is heavy. What was Raven’s method of torture, feeding him too much?”
“Fuck you, Siren. As soon as I get my legs back, you’re a dead man,” Kai answered back, his voice only a shadow of what it normally was. He was so weak, his injuries now doubled.
“I think we can get out around this corner,” I said as the tangy scent of ocean water infiltrated my senses in a whoosh.
“Then let’s go before that bitch catches up to us.” We rushed through the short hallway and around the corner to find that not only were we wrong—again—but we’d come upon the bitch in question.
I barely held in my gasp as Raven dropped Pearl’s limp body on the ground and into a puddle of blood that had, no doubt, been coming from Pearl as Raven held her in the air. Raven’s guard were in full force and were right on her flank, making a slimy Siren wall between us and the only fucking exit out of here.
“What did I tell you, Zaniah? I told you not to even try. Now look what you’ve done. Your brother is dead. His bitch is dead.” She kicked at Pearl’s body to drive in her point. “Who’s next?” She shifted her body so that she fully faced us and pointed the Trident in our direction. “I think it should be you. I’m tired of your antics already. I’m ready to take my place on the throne. Take the crown for my own. And conveniently, the only two bodies in my way are you two.”
The Trident began to glow golden in her hands as she let out a low chuckle. A bolt of shimmering fire pushed out of it and came toward us. My own body pulsed in response. The power inside the Trident was connected to me. I just knew it.
And if we were connected…
I sidestepped to stand in front of Caspian and put my palms out, a shield of sorts as the fire lightning came toward us. I closed my eyes and clenched my jaw, ready to take the brunt of the hit, but as the bolt hit my hands, it only bounced off, sending the blast right back to Raven. With a yelp, she crouched down onto the ground, right next to Pearl’s body. The blast whirred above her but hit the middle of her guard wall, turning them all to ash in seconds.
“You fucking bitch. You think you can take me down with that little blast of yours?” Raven turned and tossed the Trident to one of her remaining guards before lifting her palms and taking steps toward us.
I looked at my own palms. They were unblemished, but I was changed. The bolt had supercharged me somehow and I knew that it wasn’t me that was in trouble.
It was Raven.
Her first push of dark orbs came at me like little murderous dark bullets, and while I tried to dodge most of them, one hit me in the thigh. I cringed but kept going. I had to get my men out of here.
There would be no droplets of fire coming from me this time.
Reaching inside myself, I built up a wall of fire and pushed it toward her. She jumped, avoiding most of it, but some singed the bottom of her dress and she cried out with pain. Must’ve gotten some skin as well. I stepped forward, figuring that offense was my best method in defeating her, and even if it wasn’t, at least we could push them away from the exit and get the fuck out of here. I blasted her with waves of my fire power, making
